Suruni is Sakari Piisti`s one man`s project which debut album foundations has been inspired to primitive black metal. In this context it means cold and humming guitar riffs and also ominous atmosphere. However this is not the whole truth, since Ikuus has much more. Entirety is categorized as strong lo-fi esthetics; which Ildjarn-likely drum banging particularly emphasizes. Vocals are not melodically singing, but either much screaming or growling. Most of the text are gone through in monologue way. When singing is attempted, it is quite close to a conversation, despite random screams.
This album doesn`t let close easily. The mess confuses even more when mysterious noise-elements, harmonica solos and proto-industrial rattling is thrown together. Sometimes it sounds like Tom Waits, Darkthrone and Sonic Youth would be jamming together. On the other hand you may found more melodically atmosphere from the album, where are found even a bit of features of folk music.
Ikuus is the real crux of the problem. Giving a grade isn`t easy, because any kind of number would seem like an assault both; to album and to reporter. At the same time Ikuus is an irritating, hypnotic and a confusing album. Simultaneously it attracts and pushes away. Even though many questions remain unanswered at least one thing is for certain; this isn`t a boring album.

long detailed review in CZ sicmaggot zine:
"The basic idea of Suruni's music - i.e. doing lo-fi black metal in an experimental and unusual way - is really great. However, the result itself unfortunately sounds pretty bad, a little amateurish and sometimes even ridiculous. Suruni surely has potential and some parts of "Ikuus" sound interesting (namely "Akana" and the first half of "Ismi") but on the other hand, some other parts are absolutely horrible... and these ones are more frequent. This is the main reason why is the overall impression from "Ikuus" pretty poor."

Blaze of Sorrow used to play black metal with some neofolk and acoustic interludes on their previous album. On the new EP "Fulgida reminiscenza" (which consists of three songs from previously unreleased EP from 2010), they abandoned the black metal elements (with one exception - "Transcendenza") and created pure neofolk record. The band shows they're surely able to make a good album without metal as well. "Fulgida reminiscenza" is not anything really extraordinary but it has really nice and pleasant atmosphere and delivers smooth and entertaining listening which is exactly the thing that I expect from genres like this.

new review below, BOS is not one man band, rest is more than OK
Band: BLAZE OF SORROW
Country: Italy
Title: Fulgida Reminiscenza
Label: Sun & Moon Records
Year: 2014
Style: Atmospheric Black Metal
Review:
New EP from this Italian one-man-band, Fulgida Reminiscenza is actually made of a 3 tracks EP recorded in 2010 and never released until now, plus 2 bonus tracks, one of them being a cover of a Death In June track. If you are already familiar with Peter's work you know he's relying a lot on acoustic guitars and atmospheric keyboard passages, but it seems on this EP he used these elements more than usual, apparently he recorded the 2010 tracks in a miserable state of mind and they turned out overly melancholic and nostalgic. You have to wait more than 10 minutes in this EP for the Black Metal elements (drums and electric guitars) to kick in, but that's not necessarily bad for the overall atmosphere. Blaze of Sorrow is again a pleasant audition and I'm sure if you like its previous works you'll like this one too. If you don't know this Italian project you have to know it's a blend of acoustic and semi-acoustic melancholic music with Black Metal and even a pinch of Post Metal, although the Black Metal elements are rare on this particular release. Sun & Moon did a professional and elegant job producing it in form of a digipack EP strictly limited to 500 copies.

Review:
Sun & Moon is adventuring into untouched, experimental territories more and more lately and that's only healthy for a label if they can afford releasing stuff that they have no idea if will sell 5 or 500 copies of. Suruni is the new gamble of the local label, a one man band from Finland and its debut album, an 8 tracks effort released as digipack CD and totaling almost 40 minutes of the strangest experimental music I've heard lately. Basically Suruni is mixing lo-fi, raw Black Metal with soft touches from Jazz, Blues, Ambient, Drone and Doom, all served in a simple form and shape, with raw, rehearsal-type sound and I guess recorded all in one take. At first the whole seemed way too clumsy and unprofessional to even bother, but I have to admit it grew on me and I started to understand that's actually supposed to sound like that. Ikuus is a highly personal and emotional album, and even the cover artwork is made by Sakari Piisti, the man behind this project. Most of the atmospheres on this release are calm and soft, but the Black Metal touches are thereand well inserted in order to keep a certain flow to the whole. Probably you won't like it at first either, but give it a chance and spin this a few more times before deciding (if you're into traditional Black Metal only then avoid at all costs), 4 spins and I'm hooked.

"The final song turns out to be a Death in June cover, namely, But, What Ends When the Symbols Shatter? Considering its one of my favorite DiJ songs, I'd be hard pressed to say its better than the original, but as a mostly straight forward cover song its quite fantastic and could in all likeliness turn someone onto the amazing tunes of DiJ, too."

"I don't even know what else to say. Look it up and scratch your head and wonder. How could a record be so bad that I couldn't even sit through the whole thing? Well, listen to Suruni and you'll understand. Fuck it."

According to the last issue of Legacy - The Voice From The Dark Side magazine, SURUNI - "Ikuus" Digi CD 2014 (Sun & Moon Records) is the third worst record in the history of the magazine! A Bronze medal is a Bronze medal! Congratulations to Suruni!
