I have no idea what Peter is talking about. I am not IT saavy.

The only way to resolve this issue, at this point, is to re-install Windows. And what I meant is not re-format the hard drive and install Windows but install Windows XP over your old one. That way, all of your files, except for your Windows updates, etc, will still be intact.

I will try to get an installer then

When I have a blue screen, it always means my computer won't restart again because there's not enough space on my harddrive. Then I always go to my friend and he does a 'checkdisk' with the windows CD. It can take about three hours, but after that, it works fine.

Is is possible to stuck your harddisk into a different PC on an IDE-slave port ? Then that other PC would start up as usual with the IDE-master port booting his own harddisk and your dead one should be visible in the Windows Explorer as Drive D:\ like a normal directory. Then you can copy away all the data.

Let me translate this into easier terms for people who may not be IT savvy.

Peter is saying that it is possible to take out the old hard drive from the inside of the computer and then connect it into another system. That way, the old hard drive can be read by the other computer, so that you can access the data inside the old hard drive.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend doing so without knowing what you're doing. Besides, hard drives can be quite fragile and you'll definitely need to ground yourself (in other words, no static electricity) or you can damage the circuits.

I don't recall any blue screens errors due to lack of hard drive space. If anything, your Windows boot-up will be likely to be quite slow due to lack of hard drive space.

It's most likely the "Unmountable Boot Volume". I think I've seen this problem a couple of times.

Last time when my computer died, it was because one of the memory SIMM's had died. When I took one out (i was lucky and got the faulty one out on the first try) my computer was resurrected.

I noticed that it was faulty during the bios memory test when you start up the pc.

Shit, man. I used to remember those SIMM memory sticks for the old 286 to the early Pentium I era. These were AGES ago.

I got the bluescreen of death the first day I installed my current machine. Seems to have been fine after I removed the piece of software I'd just installed. Is it new?

Yeah, well what ever they are called these days, hehe. I'm not too computer hardware oriented myself. My incident happened about 3-4 years ago on a rather new pc back then.

You can try rebooting in safe mode (I think you just tap F8 when the computer starts up).

If it lets you do that you could maybe remove the questionable software and see if that helps.
