I got the blue screen of death on my other machine. I've never had this happen to me before. Is there a way to fix this? I have some files on there that I want to preserve.

Blue screen= death most of the times. Hard drives can be saved though. I just "lost" my wireless connection...the damn laptop does not recognizes it anymore, and it seems to be a "normal" issue...good luck my brother is an IT manager and he tolds me to get rid of the abominable windows vista...so there you go with a surviving tip...

When did the blue screen occur? Did you write down the details what it says on the blue screen? I can find out what the problem as long as you provide the details of the error.

Not really. There are many, many ways to get blue screens but that doesn't mean your computer is going to die automatically. Quite a few of them revolve around software and/or operating system errors, such as bad software drivers or corrupted files. There are blue screen messages that will pinpoint to hardware failure such as the RAM, hard drive, or any computer components such as sound card, video card, and so on.

Here's what it says on the blue screen.

Quote:
STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000034 (0x0000000 0x0000000).
The system has been shut down.

According to the information, the error seems to occur with one of your Windows system files, most likely winlogon. Did you install any software or hardware before the problem started to occur? Try "Last known good configuration" by pressing the F8 key before the Windows XP logo shows up on the screen. It's best if you just keep pressing it as soon as you turn on the computer.

Go to Microsoft's webpage at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156669 , as it provides the steps to rectify this specific problem the solution I provided didn't work.

There's a possibility that one of those software could've messed up your system files. My bet is on the anti-virus freeware or anti-spyware programs. Do you know what are the actual names of the A/V and anti-spyware programs that you installed?

Okay, try doing the F8 key method again, but see if you can enter "Safe Mode". Ignore the Safe Mode with network or the command prompt option.
