When it smells like Kanwulf, we put it in here!

I start with this I just stumbled over on YT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QelJS85fmGs

When I think of early black metal, it's all about Venom, Hellhammer and Zarach Luc Victor Merz Baal Tharagh. Hail the pioneers...

This is real, this guy teached Metallica how to sing the blues in 1979 during a holiday trip. Then he went to Norway and fucked a girl (who later gave birth to Oystein Aarseth) and then back to France to invent Black Metal.

True story.

Same guys released Fallen Angel demos in 1992/1993 and Solhverv album in 1995/1996, it's not a long shot.

I would rather submit the Hate Forest/Ildjarn split to this thread.

The story on that split is incredibly convoluted at this point.

Ildjarn side supposedly recorded in 1994 but sounds suspiciously modern
Turns out the songs are rerecordings of old Nidhogg demo
Everyone thinks Ildjarn and Nidhogg are same person anyway

I assume you actually know the story but just in case: they ripped off an instrumental/ambient album from an artist called Korouva (also pretty good) and said it was their own. I think that's their only scam music-wise although I could be wrong. but the type of shit they say in interviews seems like total bullshit as well. That being said I have a couple of their cds and I have to admit I really enjoy them.

If memory serves they did the same with Ahulabrum.

major issue was they lied about how they recorded their music
they stated their sound came from playing a biodiesel powered harp whose sound was filtered through a giant fishtank, but turns out it was just a macbook plugged in at starbucks
