hmmm. so, i went to the Chicago and St. Vitus Brooklyn shows on the Mayhem "De Mysteriis" tour and both times the sound kind of stunk, even though the band played their asses off.

now, the metro kind of sucks in general and i've seen bad sounding shows at st. vitus (and seen good sounding ones) . . . did anybody else see bad sounding shows on this tour?

i'm trying to figure out who the fuck is to blame. honestly the bad sound was kind of consistent - everything had tons of low-mid boxiness and kind of cancelled out any clarity. i'm wondering if their front of house guy is the problem here.

i had to really focus on the fact that i know every measure of these songs to make out what was happening (the only modifications were the shortening of the guitar break towards the end of "de mysteriis dom sathanas" and a few minor rhythmic accent things in various songs). they pretty much did it by the book.

the band kicked ass both times. they weren't the problem. fastest "buried by time and dust" ever in brooklyn!

nobody fucking headbangs anymore. lame. i did. ha ha ha.

They sounded awesome at the Gramercy in NYC on Sunday night. One of the best, if not the best time I have ever seen them live.

They sounded very good considering how bad the sound is at the temp Masquerade in ATL. Same with Inquisition. Whoever does FOH there needs to be shot. Snare drums should not drown out fucking everything else.

i mean, i'm watching clips of gramercy, metro and st. vitus, and there's INSANE amounts of low end either nights - like a giant pillow. still thinking the front of house guy is the problem. super hard to hear what's going on when every single element in the mix is so puffy with 100 hz on down frequencies boosted soooo much. ugh. what is this - a rap show?

Nah, the sound at Gramercy sucked too. I walked in at the end of Inquisition and it was also a blared out mess.

Very strange because Tore Necromorbus is the Mayhem live sound engineer. But there are so many factors than can fuck up the sound. Venue and it's structure is one big factor...

I've seen The True Mayhem at several different venues, both inside and outside, and they always sound fucking incredible. I think seeing them outside at Deathfest was honestly they best they ever sounded. Cleveland was cool, too, because they also played stuff besides what's on DMDS which ruled because I celebrate their entire discography. But, yeah, must've been the venues.

You could tell what was going on but Hellhammer needs to not use such bassy triggers or subkick "mics" (they're not really mics). The mud needed to be cut heavily when I saw them; the entire floor of these venues with people standing and moshing are massive "room nodes".

Venue sound people are mostly deaf/idiots who could never get a real job setting up speaker systems for rich people or work in a studio. Unless the band has good sound guy willing to just muscle his way in and take over the PA controls or the show is all stage noise, expect bad sound.

I couldn't make out anything until about halfway through Inquisition's set.

Sound was shitty at the Philly show too. All you could hear were the bass drums. The guitars were way too low

methinks necromorbus really needs to lay off the fucking low eq. i'm pretty convinced he's the culprit. if the records sounded like this, nobody would listen to them.

Inquisition had mic and sound issues at the beginning of their set at Gramercy, but the sound got better as it went along I thought.

when i saw inquisition, the sound guy didn't turn on the kick drums in the house until the second song. without those, that band has zero low end. ha ha ha.

Seeing this in Glasgow and Dublin-hopefully the sound is fine for at least one of these.
