My girlfriend used to live up there so I spent a decent amount of time up there on days off. The record stores are not very good for metal, but if you are dedicated you should go to Luna and dig through the bins on the floor, which is their used section (it's annoying as fuck to dig through really, all new records are up in bins and EVERYTHING used is in milk crates on the floor, should give you a good idea of what kind of store it is...), I have found some decent records there, and you might find something cool in their "rare" bins but for the most part that shit is overpriced. Indy CD and Vinyl can be OK, I guess it is under new ownership and the focus has shifted back to vinyl but I haven't been in a long time. Heard decent things about Karma but never been. World Records is a weird ass run down shop that I've found some rare stuff at, it's worth going just to see the place really. There are Half Price Books all over the city, the only one really worth going to is on the north side on Ditch, found lots of sick industrial records there, and Death in June and Ash Pool albums among other things.
Not sure what to say about breweries, but you should definitely go drink at Tappers if you have any even minor interest in arcade games, every game is free and they have a ton, and the beer selection is really good. State Street Pub is my other go-to bar, there are usually decent shows there. Ollie's is a gay bar with really cheap and good food 24 hours well worth hitting if you are out really late. Kuma's Corner is really 'metal' but honestly lame unless you are trying to listen to Pig Destroyer while you eat your burger.

Walking around in Broad Ripple is recommended. Indy CD and vinyl is there as well.. It's not too special, but I did once buy the Archgoat/Surrender of Divinity live split there. Smile
I like Luna Music best of the record shops that I know of in Indy, the description by the poster above is really apt for both of them.
I don't think there is much kvlting going on in Indy, but I did get high fived by some guy for my Drudkh shirt once Laughing

The guy behind the old Missing Link shop had been out of the game for quite a while but has reopened under Irvington Vinyl. This is probably the only place worth a stop.

If you're there on the weekend stop at Kumas. It's no different than any of the Chicago area ones for the most part, but they have a Saturday/Sunday brunch burger called 'The Axehandle' that's fucking epic. Bun-less burger on a bed of fries with biscuits covered in sausage gravy (throw some jalapenos on there too). That and a nice Bloody and you're ready for whatever the day throws at you.

Solid beer selection too, and the music is alright. Last time I was down there they had a Weedeater mix cranked at 11:30 am. Could do worse.
