Maybe a long shot here.........
but can anyone recommend anything similar to this Kavinksy Outrun album? stuff like Lazerhawk for example.

And what are good resources to find or buy physical albums like this?
I gather there is some sort of revival of this 80s-synth-based stuff, but a lot of it seems to be download-only albums.

Cheers for the recommendations, have been looking for stuff like Kavinsky for awhile now. Also Power Glove, if i remember they were that band that did the music for Far Cry: Blood Dragon.

We're releasing the new Perturbator album - it's one of the few outrun artists to go properly physical.

Here's a track debut:

Pre-order is actually starting tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5PM Finnish time.

Huge fan of this style.

This page might give you an interesting overview.

Discovered Perturbator through this, and will definitely order the DLP once it's up for pre-order.

Not all strictly outrun but close enough:
Miami Nights 1984, Betamaxx, Gatekeeper (Giza specifically reminds me of this style even though it is quite different, the other material not so much), Nightcrawler, Lost Years, Arcade High

I love Gatekeeper's Giza, as well as Optimus Maximus, but after that they pretty much went to shit IMHO.

Of the other bands you mention here, which ones would you say sound the most like Gatekeeper on Giza & Optimus Maximus? I'd love to hear more stuff along those lines.

Oh and Blood Music, that Perturbator fella sounds fucking amazing. Am I right in assuming that the upcoming DLP would be his/their first-ever physical release?

Yes, this is his first physical release - and we'll be doing his back catalog also (all of it - both albums and an EP collection), as well as some upcoming stuff afterwards too!

What was meant about the "proper" physical release in the outrun genre is that most of the artists have stayed digital, done small cassette runs only, handmade things, etc. Very few (as far as we know) have gone to properly published vinyl, CD, etc.

Perturbator goes to pre-order tomorrow - will make a separate thread about it!

I've been following these projects for a few years and actually tried to ask some labels/artists about physical releases before. Glad to see it's finally happening. Blood Music should also get Power Glove signed and released, because I'm pretty sure I'd buy everything that comes out on CD (?). The material is top notch, it's a shame it has been just sitting there.

Kavinsky's sound is rooted in French House and Disco, so you might want to check out the latest album by Daft Punk. It's made with real analog gear as well. Not VST's like Kavinsky.

Gotta say I don't get this. It's computer music; you play it on your computer. I find the near-total lack of collector's mentality really refreshing.

I'll buy the Perturbator record and enjoy spinning it, but I'm quite glad that the vast majority of this music "just sits there", and largely for free:
