I'm looking for a reliable CD burning software for PCs.

I'm looking for something that will allow me to make audio CDs without adding 2 second gaps between tracks. I need one where I can rearrange tracks and make compilations.

Can someone point me to a place where I can download a free one?

I use Nero StartSmart, which is several years old. It allows you to do all the things you want. The gap between songs always pissed me off as well.

As for free, I do not know. This was given to me by a friend. I would recommend looking for something on download.com.

Try this program:

http://www.cdburnerxp.se/

This is a free one that can burn audio CD's with the ability to create gapless audio CD's. No spyware, AFAIK.

By the way, remember that lower speed of bruning CDR is better. For exemple: my Denon CD player sometimes had problems with CDR's faster than 12x. Best way is use 4x speed, this is only few minutes more.

The only SW that worked for me WITHOUT the 2 sec. gap was Easy CD Creator, now called Roxio CD Creator suit or something like this. No other SW did work correctly (I always got this shitty 2 sec. gap).

Nero is working okay. Is there an option to set the default to 0 seconds between tracks? I have to manually change this for each song right now. Really annoying.

I agree with Peter that EZ CD Creator was the best.

Yes, though since Roxio bought the EZ CD Creator, this big Roxio suit is a nightmare but I need it as my old EZ Creator versions do not support Windows XP or my CDR-burner. With Roxio, I can't do a "on-the-fly". I have to use some program to make WAV-files of each song and then burn it with Roxio. Absolute nightmare. That's why I don't do any CDR-copying anymore, cause it cost's way too much time. I still curse the day where my old Win95 PC with 300MHz broke down after 10 years of flawless execution.

Not sure what version you have, but I don't think there's a way to set it as default. On mine I put the tracks in order, then highlight them all, then check "no pause between tracks" or whatever. It's important to put the tracks in order first and THEN select the no pause, or Nero might get confused.
