just remembering seeing Secret Chiefs Three last year opening for Goblin, and the fact that they started with a pretty good ode to black metal, by way of an instrumental blast beat driven guitar piece

any other bands who actually incorporate the sound into their music, rather than just have a superfluous cheesy breakdown or intro?

here's another: Bongripper - "satan'

Chelsea Wolfe - Spell of Destruction

If I remember correctly. I like Chelsea Wolfe's music but this cover shouldn't have happened.

Indie-folk duo DOLEFUL LIONS did a tune in 2002 called "satanic blood" that was a tribute to that one formerly-kult band whom nobody likes anymore these days; thankfully the dude's a legit fan of said group, no bullshit "irony" whatsoever...

When I heard this I immediately thought about the Tori Amos cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

I never knew this existed until now, probably a bit biased since I enjoy Codeine but that was pretty great.

A youtube link if anyone else cares.

Do the black metal surf-rock styled covers count? They're actually pretty badass! Very Happy

Yeah, I really like Codeine. Grew up on them. I know he's a big black metal fan (he ran a BM label for fuck's sake), so I wasn't too surprised.

I didn't know there was more than the Darkthrone one. The Mayhem one is good too, some of the write-ups are pretty funny.
