with so many great old school bands coming out of Scandinavia, it's mainly swedish and norwegian bands that come up on my radar.

I'm a swede myself and the only finn band I ever paid attention to was Beherit.

so, are there any newish finn bands in the vein of Obliteration, Repugnant, Vampire, Nekromantheon, Degial etc?

actually come to think of it, the same question goes out to danish bands as well.

Fortunately the 'new' finnish old school death metal scene remained out of these crappy punk influences that the new swedish bands have.

Finland equal darkness and obscurity, if you want punk and d-beat my friend, please remain in Sweden

Nothing wrong with punk and dbeat. Violent throwback Punk is all around better songwriting than 90% of new "dark and obscure" bands that come out nowadays where atmosphere and imagery supersedes a semblance of knowing how to create entertaining music.

I can't tell if this is a translation issue, sarcasm or total falseness....

Obscure Burial, Krypts (how are they chaotic? lol) and Lantern! Already been listed but still...

Desecresy, Corpsessed, Swallowed, Desolate Shrine, Maveth, Gorephilia, Stench of Decay, etc.
Finns do it best! Also a lot of these aren't even really "old school" or "retro" (Desolate Shrine, Maveth, Swallowed EP) which is even better, I prefer bands trying to do their own sound.

oh yeah Krypts wasnt the band i was thinking of.

I like riffs and more of a normal song structure. The Blasphemy stuff doesn't work for me anymore.

Doomish Death isn't really for me either.

But some great tips in this thread so far!! Vorum and Maveth being the best

Yeah, Ranger totally fits the description.

But on the subject, is there gonna be an Obscure Burial LP/EP any time soon? The demo was really great.

I assume it's going to be a time for another demo tape up first.

Seconding Lantern, Obscure Burial, Desolate Shrine and Desecresy. Also, not sure if they really fit here but Black Feast!
