To Embrace the Corpses Bleeding is awesome. Fierce drumming as well, compared to some of the earlier releases. Heaven in Flames is also very good.

That's because Duane Timlin played drums on it (as well as the similarly vicious Dethroned, Conquered and Forgotton), I believe.

His Debauchery and Flagellator side projects are also very cool.

Doesn't Cryptic Winter also play drums on Heaven in Flames?

Not according to Metal-Archives.

Anyway, Judas Iscariot is great. I used to love "Heaven In Flames" when I was younger as it was the only CD I owned, so it got the most listening. After a while though I ended up preferring "Distant In Solitary Night" and eventually "To Embrace The Corpses Bleeding" became the one I listen to the most.

If anybody happens to have his contact, I'd drain my bank account to re-issue these gems on vinyl. This band was instrumental in forming my tastes as a young listener.

On the CD, A. thanks CW for his help on the sessions for that album... And the drum parts on that are far better than the previous albums.

Yes that's what I remembered too. The drums do sound a bit too good for Akhenaten's own style...

Every single album is great. Cold, distant and savage. One of my favorite bands to listen to in the winter. Too bad there will probably never be vinyl reissues.

"I Awoke to a Night of Pain and Carnage" in my opinion is the best song he ever wrote.

I really enjoy the drumming on the album "From Hateful Visions" . (demo compilation maybe?) Totally sporadic and crunchy but seems to fit very well. Not sure if this is what people are talking about when they say sloppy drumming

From Hateful Visions is a tape compilation featuring Heaven in Flames, Dethroned..., and two bonus tracks.

The drumming of JI never bothered me one bit, even if it is sloppy and of the beat a lot of times, especially on The Cold Earth Slept Below. In fact i prefer the original recording of that album to the more 'sophisticated' re-recording.

I'm thinking of a different album or maybe just the bonus tracks on that one.

A great track. I haven't listened to JI in a long time but I always enjoyed most of the albums. Heaven in Flames and the last ones were my favorite. Dethroned, Conquered, and Forgotten is pretty great too.
