His Weltmacht-side project is definitely worth checking out; I have the debut still in stock come to think of it. Wink

JI always was kind of a mixed bag. heaven in flames is the best one to me, along with to embrace the corpses bleeding. in all other releases, I always find something too detracting to fully enjoy the recording, be it the drums or too many filler riffs.
most of the time it's the drums though.

The "collapse" in the end of To the Black Tower of Victory is awesome. Smile

Killer band, I probably like Heaven in Flames and Moonlight Butchery the most. Honorable mentions to Thy Dying Light and Distant In Solitary Night.

Damn, I had dethroned, conquered and forgotten all about Judas Iscariot. I remember getting most of the stuff in 2001 and thought it was pretty alright. Heaven In Flames was particularly nice back then but I feel like this kind of stuff has to be just right to have the kind of appeal I can appreciate. While the material ranged from pretty good to zzzzzzzzzz, I think going through the albums now would be somewhat of a grind. And these things weren't short. Maybe some day.

Heaven In Flames is the album where black metal 'clicked' with me. Will always be my fave BM band/album. Untouchable.

Love all his material, but going back to the early stuff now so many years later you can really hear how rough some of the playing was.

I believe a few years ago Andy worked in administration at a university in Alberta.

Go the compilation From Hateful Visions around 1999 or so and even back then I had a feeling that this was nothing special. Why would you listen to this shit if you have Darkthrone?

Question

Pretty useless comment.

Imo Judas Iscariot has created some of the best raw blackmetal albums ever made, and even though i like the old Darkthrone material, i don't think they are superior at all. Distant in Solitary Night and Heaven in Flames in particular are albums that i would pick over almost anything Darkthrone has ever put out.

Yep, The Call To Battle is really good. Thanks for reminding me that I need to throw that one on again some day soon.

As far as JI goes, Heaven in Flames, Moonlight Butchery, Dethroned Conquered and Forgotten, and To Embrace The Corpses Bleeding are all awesome recordings.
