Dark Fortress, Secrets of the Moon, Lunar Aurora... these are bands that have great production and keyboards, however they are NOT gothic nor reeking of silly vampiric romanticism in my opinion. These bands all seem to be more of a classy artistic musical entity... not circus clowns marketed to impressionable teenagers at the mall... unlike...

Agathodaimon, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Siebenbürgen, all of which have a image that seems very focused on appealing to the youth... and music that is chalk full of cliches and subjects more appealing to a youthful mind of angst and what not as well. Wink

There is certainly some artistic talent in Cradle of Filth, as composing much of that music is surely a task and a half constructing it all... just much of their personality is purely over the top and most certainly on purpose to appeal to the more youthful crowds.

Any band that can literally rhyme out a novel of lyrics into functional songs certainly can leave an impression Laughing

Cruelty and the Beast, Damnation and a Day. I really like those two Cradle of Filth albums. Much of the rest of it lacks any great appeal to me other than a single song here or there that happened to be catchy. Wink

Yeah every release up to that one is top notch.. Unlike the other bands mentioned they don't take themselves so seriously either.

I'm more partial to Dusk... and Her Embrace, and Vempire myself.

Cruelty is awesome. Some awesome Maiden-esque guitaring going on there. Cradle is a fine band, it's their retard faggoth fanbase that sucks.

Their last four have been horrendous shit, and the ones before that only had a few good riffs scattered around.

I think they basically sucked for the first couple releases, were good on Dusk And Her Embrace, were GREAT on Cruelty and the Beast, then started going downhill. Anything after Midian is completely unlistenable.

their later albums are some of the most dull black metal I've ever heard.

Aye.

If my memory serves, first two albums were pretty good but after that I lost track of this band. Saw their show at HOA this summer, extremely dull stuff altogether.

I've only heard and got 'Antithesis', which has some good moments, but also some quite boring moments..

Maybe I should check out their earlier material..

same here. Sounds good, solid. Though a bit like a sub-par Funeral Mist

I would dare to suggest that the last Anael album did this kind of style of BM a lot better.

"From Arcane Fires" is a prime example of a completely underrated record! Great one!!

I don't hear any Funeral Mist or keyboards in SotM, but then again I haven't gone back further than Carved in Stigmata Wounds.

I think I've always wanted to like these guys more than I actually do. Carved and Antithesis are solid albums (tracks like Lucifer Speaks, Seraphim is Dead and Ghost are great); Priviligivm couldn't hold my attention no matter how many times I tried to listen to it (but Queen Among Rats is a good track); and Seven Bells was a return to form for me. It feels almost if Seven Bells is shorter than Priviligivm because of well it flows but they're actually around the same length.

All in all not a band I'm hugely concerned over.
