"Demo" hardly means what it used to mean, so it shouldn't be surprising that they're treated differently now. Personally I'd rather buy a CD than a tape anyway.

Exactly. 'Demo' used to signify a self recorded / self released effort. A demonstration of what you can do with a view to impressing the scene. This is being released on an established label and by the sounds of it is recorded properly. It could just as easily be called a debut EP. Doesn't fucking matter either way so long as its good. Those involved and their abilities will surely be known to Invictus, its not like its some bunch of kids releasing their first ever compositions, even though its the first release under the name Malthusian.

Quite often this style isn't my thing, but that track is killer.

well i guess Invictus trying to release some demos like demos... and those that get higher demand get rereleased on other format.. and it looks like this going to happen with this band.
Though at other hand i guess it is connected to current music business state
