Will be there during Mid Dec.. Any places of interest I should check out & what to look out for since it's winter time? Are there any record stores or metal shops around that is worth checking out? Any festival/bands playing around at that point of time? Would appreciate any help/infos from local Swedish metal heads or those who have been there. Laughing

Record shops:

Soundpollution at Gamla Stan
Thrash Palace at St. Eriksplan
Stockholms serie & skivhandel at Rådmansgatan

All are reachable on the green subwayline.
Goggle and you shall find.

Satyricon plays December 20th.

Also, look for updates on http://boredtodeathbookings.blogspot.se since they arrange alot of great gigs.

I agree. Well worth your time. The cover of Blood Fire Death looks massive compared to a tiny record jacket.... Metal brutality aside the gallery is exceptional.

I thought Repulsive Records was best but I somewhere heard it had closed. Sound Pollution is pretty cool. Old Stockholm rules, I had the best sandwich ever there in one of the shops and the Marigold beer is great, you never see that.....

The beer in the 7-11 is like 3% which kind of sucks.....

My wife went into about 4000 clothing stores (2000 of them were H&M) and bought a pair of leather boots at some boutique, I think they cost as much as my stereo.....

Not to mention the cover of Blót: Sacrifice in Sweden!

Thanks guys for the suggestions.. I've read about Skanken too in most searches. Def will check it out esp the National Museum since the massive artwork is in your face ....Something to add on beautiful memories.. Any other record stores apart from the mentioned & gigs/concerts to look out for? How about local delicacies, anything in particular I should try?

Most things Worth to see are mentioned.
But well, When you are going to visit Sound Pollution make sure to just walk around in Gamla Stan(old city) and just enjoy the atmosphere.
The buildings are beautiful.
There are quite many record stores in that area.
I guess you also should check out Hot Records, Solna Skivbörs and Delicious Goldfish records in Solna. Solna is close and you can get there with the subway.

I have never eaten any Swedish delicacies in a resturant (since I eat them at home). But "blodpudding" is what I can recommend. If you fry it it's really really tasty, especially if you have some lingonberry jam to go with it.

But I have no idea if there are any resturants where they serve it since it's really cheap and not really classy. Very Happy

If you're very lucky you'll get to experience major delays on the subway as well. Nothing more Stockholmish than that.

"Skogskyrkogården" might be of interest as well. A huge graveyard, where the infamous Entombed picture was taken. (Where they stand by the cross).

There are no gigs during this time that I know of right now. Stockholm usually have 2 great gigs in one weekend or nothing at all for a month. So if you're lucky, there'll be something worthy going down when you are here.

I never heard of any of the stores in Solna, and I live there. Should probably check them out hehe.

+ Nostalgipalatset. Good shop for both new and used metal.

I found the prices at Sound Pollution a bit steep. I checked the receipt after shopping, and saw that I actually paid 329sek for the regular lp of the new Devil's Blood album.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned the Historiska museet (tons of Viking gold, rune stones, etc.). Also the Vasamuseet which houses Gustavus Adolphus' unbelievably massive warship that sank like a brick moments after it was launched in 1628. And the burial church on Riddarholmen islet is full of dead royals in creepy coffins, vaults, and sarcophagi dating back to Magnus III in 1290. One of the oldest buildings in Stockholm.

It's no Sedlec Ossuary, but it's full of this kind of stuff:

Nostalgipalatset and Trash Palace is basically the same store.

Repulsive closed down their store several years ago.

Riddarholmskyrkan (burial church on Riddarholmen) is closed during the autumn and winter.

I would recommend Livrustkammaren (a section of the royal castle) where they have alot of old royal stuff.
I believe the cover for Marduk's la grande danse macbre, the photo of the golden armour was taken there.
