It's a good question and which ones were the next (second, third etc) of the second wave?

Abruptum and then again Marduk - Those of the Unlight. Then Swedish BM decided to be not interesting anymore (see this thread) until Nastrond and Arckanum showed up.

Yes. I'd say Marduk, Abruptum and Dissection were first.

Then came the orthodox scene. Ofermod, Malign, Watain, Funeral Mist, Arckanum and Triumphator.

ABRUPTUM ep is 91, but it's not a full-lenght. Well i love Dark Endless, but in my ears it's sound more DM than BM. I agree for NASTROND and ARCKANUM, i love also the first SETHERIAL. Anyway, Sweden was definitely more into DM rather than in BM in the 90', and for me DISSECTION is really the bound of BM and DM for Sweden.

I think that Setherial Sounds like a worse Emperor or Dark Funeral.
Swedish black metal peaked around 1998-2003.
And of course Nifelheim. Their s/t is a classic swedish bm album.

Setherial's 1st is fucking awesome! Other albums not so interesting, but Nord is one of my favourites!

I don't think Marduk, Setherial and Abruptum be considered as melodic black/death [IMHO]

Dissection, Unanimated or Necrophobic hit this standard, so the (sub)genre birth with these bands.

My initial question was about the first strictly BM release done in Sweden in the early 90'.

I always stuck with Far Away From the Sun, but how are the other Sacramentum albums?

Recently asked myself the same thing, because I had forgotten all about them. Even Finis Malorum sounded way better than last time, but I was most pleasantly surprised by The Coming Of Chaos and, strangely enough, Thy Black Destiny. Way more riffy than I remembered. I think I should play these more often from now on.

By the way, are there any albums comparable to Sentenced's "North From Here?" The only one I can think of with a similar style and atmosphere is "The Red in the Sky is Ours."
