With the exception of a handful of bands (if that), I really dislike this style. But one release I really enjoy is Septic Grave - Caput Mortuum. Really nice little gem.

One gem nobody has mentioned yet is 'Impious - Evilized'.

Not sure about the later releases, but this is a really overlooked album in this genre.

Niden Division 187., Dawn, Thy Primordial... Bands that Jocke Pettersson aka Morth drummed for in the 90's basically. Very Happy

I know everyone loves to hate 'em, but In Flames - Lunar Strain and Subterranean are two of the best albums out there to play drunken air-guitar to.

Very Happy

I'm no expert in this style and never understood the way it was going in mid 90ies.
But can MERCILESS - UNBOUND fit in this term in some way?

I have to agree, they sound more pure and refined, Necrophobic were great too.

Yeah and *insert random Darkthrone clone here* is better than Darkthrone... Rolling Eyes

except for the fact that Sacramentum were never a dissection clone in the first place Wink

ontopic, a bit different maybe, but I've always liked this http://youtu.be/uXVYMV1KbKM

also, I'm not sure but maybe this can fit into this thread http://youtu.be/2KjRok0EkF4, pure brilliance!

Ensemble Nocturne sent their first demo back then. It's been a while since I've listened to the tape and it seems like both of my tape decks have mysteriously died, so I cannot vouch for this, but I think the music was clumsily arranged, yet somewhat charming melodic death/black metal.
Gates Of Ishtar did not do that well in the long run for me, even though I liked the first album upon its release.
No Fashion ended up releasing quite a lot of this stuff, many forgettable IMO.
