Satan - Life Sentence.

Album of the year for me (so far anyways).

I'm surprised The Wizar'd hasn't been mentioned by some. Especially the folk praising it earlier this year. I've yet to hear it but I feel a good vibe from that record, regardless.

P.S. just ordered Ancient Tome of Arcane Knowledge from NWN! Will be finding this out on my own, ladies!

Fuck.

People really believe the new In Solitude album actually holds a candle to Life Sentence? Haha. Talk about funny...

Anyways, this next comment is geared towards the more knowledgeable folk in here, and since the band Satan's been discussed a heavy bit, I want to know if anyone has heard the new Blitzkrieg yet? The two are related and it would be cool if someone shared a thought or two on their new record.

Because it's out there. Somewhere. I just found out today.

The Wizar'd Ancient Tome of Arcane Knowledge is great. Anyone into traditional heavy metal or NWOBHM should be praising this thing. I'm surprised no one has in this thread already!

Definite in a top heavy metal release list of 2013, imo.

The new SATAN definitely tops the list for me. It's amazing that Brian Ross can still hit those notes a full 30 years after Court in the Act.

because it's not very good.

Doesn't hold a candle to Satan/Enforcer/Witchgrave/Atlantean Kodex/Attacker/Dead Lord etc. etc. etc.

I will however give it some more spins to see if my judgement is indeed a fair one.

In Solitude- Sister
Satan - Life Sentence
High Spirits- 2013 ep

Haven't heard the whole Atlantean Kodex album yet, but I imagine it'd be near the top of the list.

....Zuul "To The Frontlines" came out in 2012, but that's nitpicking as it's a killer album front to back. I'm actually wearing a To The Frontlines shirt right now at work Cool

Very true. The entire band hasn't missed a beat. Besides the modern production, it's almost like the album sat in a time capsule for the last 30 years before being unleashed.

A lot of great releases have already been mentioned, been a great year for heavy/speed/traditional for sure. I'd say another great gem worth checking out is Stallion from Germany: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mUToTcD0h3c

Just give it more spins, man.

I found Ancient Tome of Arcane Knowledge to have some nice, tasty guitar work. How you can't acknowledge their tunes is beyond me.

Definitely a step above Witchgrave, imo. Can't speak for Dead Lord, Atlantean Kodex or Enforcer. But I'll agree with you on Giants of Canaan, which was an excellent return to form by Attacker. Awesome album and those vocals ruled.

Regardless, can't wait for that new Blitzkrieg here. Just going by the cover, title ("Back From Hell"), and Brian Ross's impeccable comeback with Satan, it could be stellar.

The new Noctum should be in this conversation.

Zuul should definitely be allowed in the discussion. I think it came out close enough to the end of last year that it missed a lot of year end lists. And it's too good of an album to not talk about!
