Shouldn't they have rather split up before it was released because that's where they became really popular? Lay the "blame" as much as you'd like on their more recent albums but "Mother North" is where it all started.

Wait to you hear the song ... Phoenix Razz

Guess Watain and Satyricon both were obligated to write something for their girlfriends on the latest albums. Razz

what watain song on "the wild hunt" is a song you would play for your girlfriend?
.

I'd also like to hear.
The song in question is "They Rode On" apparently. Perhaps someone will release that song and "Phoenix" on a split seven inch as an answer to the supposed betrayal these bands have shown their loyal fans by changing their style and doing what they want to do instead of recording their old songs again in a new version.
I would buy that seven inch but then again I like "Girlfriend Metal".

I know this comes up every time Satyricon is mentioned on this board, but Rebel Extravaganza simply obliterates Nemesis Divinia on every front. It's by far their most powerful and aggressive record.

RE, Volcano, Diabolical and AON are all great. The rest seems to be more or less rubbish.

Being a contrarian is cool I guess.

That said, everything after RE is pure rubbish.
(well ok, I recall there being a few tracks on Volcano that were still decent ie the non dumbed down ones)

If you perceive everything that differs from your subjective opinion as 'being a contrarian', alright... Although we do know judgments of taste are subjective.

I could write a book on why exactly the previous four albums are good, but that would be time wasted; moreover, the majority does seem to agree that Now, Diabolical is their masterpiece.

Whatever the case, there's a clear progression from RE into AON; and this new one is some mixup where the band has lost all energy, dynamics, intensity, volume etc. Half of the content is stolen from somewhere. Most laughably, they try to imitate Enslaved.

As far as asserting there's no sense of power to a song like Die By My Hand - I'd easily take that as 'being a contrarian' - since it's so cool to assert the old 'trve' records were cool.
'Satyricon' is just as incomprehensible as these. Also, you can enjoy clear quotes from Nemesis Divina there.

You are right when you say that "Mother North" is where it all started but - IMHO - from Rebel Extravaganza the band took another direction.

I'm not saying that I dislike all the post-Nemesis Divina albums (in fact, I like RE, Volcano and Diabolical but I found AON boring and tasteless), but - starting from Rebel Extravaganza - I don't feel like it's the same band.

My two cents...

It is chaotic. Then again, I suppose that's what you understand as 'black metal'. However, Satyricon assert that BM is just 'mood and atmosphere' (which, to me, says absolutely zero), and they're the ones to take the genre further - and if you disagree, it just mean you don't have what it takes to understand their ingenious effort. Laughing

P.S. Mother North is one infantile song... and whoever liked that, should be most happy with this new one... since you get the same 'epicness' there. Rolling Eyes

- strange, it continued exactly in the vein of Diabolical, just had more scope and power. Great tunes, as well. I see nothing tasteless, on the contrary... then again Satyricon 2013 is the epitome of tastelessness.

I sort of meant contrarian to what the average person on this board's opinion is, how the rest of the world views 2nd wave Satyricon is of no interest to me. It's all just opinions anyways, I got into extreme metal because accessible rock/metal bands bore me to death, so one could understand why the newer stuff has no appeal to me.

There are of course exceptions, Priest being one of them.
