It's really, really good. All the influences come together in a totally seamless way. Wonder how long it will be before there's a vinyl release.

Also - listening to Pallid Hands, I'm really struck by some similarities in the guitarwork between this album and "Pornography" by The Cure, especially the song "The Figurehead". Anybody else notice this?

Yeah! I noticed it too.

I agree the album is good, though I need to give it more listens for it to really sink in.

So people aren't allowed to like something and praise it because it makes it 'over-rated'?

I streamed it a few times as my pre-order has only just been shipped, and there were quite a few moments where the song-writing seemed really awkward, yet the more I listened the more it began to make sense. I think it's albums like these which have depth and don't 'click' right away that get remembered.

People are free to do whatever they want.

It's just not as good as I expected for an album that everybody is praising. But that's just my opinion.

I had largely ignored the band up until now because I was under the impression that it's a bunch of kids playing cloned Mercyful Fate muck. This stuff sounds pretty good though. I did a 180 with Ghost and found myself liking them a lot, so this appeals to me in the same way I guess. Ordering soon.

I've listened to it twice, and this is exactly how I feel. Some of the changes in the songs seem entirely forced and don't seem to follow the previous section well. I can't get into it at all.

I haven't taken this thing out of my car or home stereo for 13 days. Any small criticisms I felt upon first listen are out the window now... I don't think this album could be any better for me. It really comes alive with headphones and the lyrics in front of you, and I'm normally a guy who couldn't care less about lyrics one way or the other. I don't hear anything awkward or forced, this album just flows perfectly from one passage/song to the next . It really is a grower, as well and there is a lot to take in that is hidden on first listens. The vocals are far beyond what he's done before... Most likely this will be my album of the year.

Exactly this. Daily listening, sometimes twice. This is really something special, and I'm sorry for the people that don't get it. Truly something that will last.

In what seems like a never ending supply of albums that are good for a few listens, then get filed on the shelf and rarely pulled out again, this is one that will certainly stand the test of time for me at least. My only worry is that I will burn myself out on this album Smile Going to see them tonight and I'll buy the vinyl at the show if they have it, then I'll get a few spins in before giving it a rest for a while (hopefully).

Gets better with each listen. The song writing is very impressive considering their age, in the way that the songs modulate through different keys very frequently at times. This was already present on their older material but on Sister they've continued to dissolve the boundaries.
