Disregarding 80s noise, the only sensible answer is the Scarface soundtrack! I don't even like pop in general, but this is way too good to be ignored. Enjoyable every time I watch the movie or play the cd.

ABBA

They had an (well deserved) career in the 70ies and (sadly) split up in 1982.

fix'd

Thumbs up!
Was this a name- or an opinion-dropping topic?
ABBA kicks ass but I only know/own their 70's albums.

@ into the pit: Thanks for Bärchen und die Milchbubis. Never heard of em but I love it!

this year, a respected black metal musician gave me an ABBA studio Lp + a Greatest Hits ...he did not reveal how they came to be in his possession, but he knew I liked them. ABBA let Led Zeppelin use their Polar recording studio too.
and I just learned this -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Visitors_%28ABBA_album%29
"The Visitors album was one of the first records to be recorded and mixed digitally, and was the first in history to be manufactured on the new CD format in 1982 on Atlantic"

That Debbie Harry song Ya-Yo was kind of catchy

I was only kidding. As a matter of fact you are right. There should be more discussing in this topic.

In Belgium we had New Beat in the 80's Very Happy .

I always feel awkward when I watch those clips but I still love the music.
Did that style ever reach the USA?

Oh yes it is. Took me a while to get into this type of stuff, but to my surprise it's a really interesting scene.

Thanks for posting those; that Kano track is awesome. Any other recommendations, or a general starting point into the genre?
