Don't move to Oakland unless I am the beneficiary of your record collection.

SF if you can afford it or manage to find a rent controlled situation. Best city ever.

Having lived in the Bay my whole life, here's my list of pros and cons

San Francisco cons - expensive, year round cold weather, homeless people everywhere, flthy and smells bad most areas, traffic, shows are expensive (usually $20 and up)
pros-best record stores in the Bay Area by far (Amoeba, Aquarius,Mission Records)

Oakland cons- hipsters,liberals,ghetto, horrible crime
pros - cheaper than SF, DIY metal scene, more underground metal shows

Sacramento cons - it's like they stuck a Midwestern redneck city in the middle of CA
pros - ???

Pacificia is the best place I've lived in the bay area. If you can't take the fog then I would recommend Oakland. San Francisco is okay to visit but horrile to live in.

go to colorado instead!

I support this statement. I grew up in SoCal but couldn't see myself ever living there again. Cost of living is way too high and driving anywhere is always a battle. Don't get me wrong, I go back to visit whenever I can but I am extremely happy living in Colorado. You have a lot of west coast features without a lot of the bullshit.

Santa Cruz.

I love living here but there is nothing metal about Santa Cruz. And it's fucking expensive.

Check out Oakland, good music scene, relatively cheap, slutty women... yeah the crime is kind of shitty and if you are scared of black or Latino people you could have trouble, but I think it's a cool town. Better than SF.

To live in Oakland you need to have some major(black)balls.

absolutely. when my Grandparents retired, they decided to move down that way (Dinuba to be exact, where the retired folks go to die) absolutely boring/depressing region. AVOID! hahaha

exactly what I was saying in my post. Pacifica is the best of both worlds in my mind... not far at all from SF and none of the riff raff of the city. traffic is definitely not bad in comparison either. good chill beach options too which are not overly touristy (at least not when I grew up there) very fond of my formative years in Pacifica to say the least. if I ever found myself back in the region, this is where I would seek for sure

Avoid SF, its annoying as hell in just about every way imaginable. Oakland is far superior and as far as crime, if you are an experienced city dweller with a reasonable amount of intelligence-- don't worry.

California is not the place to be, nor will it be anytime soon. prepare to be taxed up the ass, get robbed and forest fires. Also, if it gets below 60 the average californian will bitch about it being cold

Yeah, cost is great. But you'll have no job and get robbed. Add that in a city that big there's seriously maybe 10 - 20 at most people into metal, and the rasputin there is not great. Avoid the valley hahaha i got the fuck out of fresno first chance
