John Fahey:

Mentioned him in the Nocturnal Poisoning thread, but I guess he might appeal to others on this board.

I'm not embarrassed of anything I listen to. That would be weird and neurotic.

it's not so weird actually. people judge other people on their tastes. I can be apprehensive and quite self-conscious when showing music to new people, ESPECIALLY all the extreme metal. that shit is bizarre to most people. or all the balls waving in the air power metal. if you don't know it like we do that stuff sounds pathetic, cheesy and childish. the music of seriously autistic manchildren. of course you likely have slight problems when listening to music by yourself embarrasses you.

as far as my own tastes go I've become shameless over the years . I can enjoy pretty much anything without giving myself a hard time.

I suppose I don't get why personal tastes are such a big deal. When I'm at work, for example, it's totally normal for me to go from something like Scratch Acid to Blasphemy to the Moritz Von Oswald Trio without considering how someone would perceive that. It just never enters my brain.

seems like the ideal job then! it depends on the environment and the people of course. another dimension is showing someone music that's close to you and wanting them to at least see what' so special about it to you. that's a somewhat vulnerable situation. it's silly of course, but it doesn't seem unnatural to me that music should be something we have these hangups about.

I listen to all kinds of non-metal - have got playlists on my computer for hip hop, reggae, dancehall, blues, jazz, rock, afrobeat, funk, classical, Latin, ambient, industrial, and a handful of others I'm not thinking of.

Mentioning DCD or stuffs like that is irrelevant to this thread

Any music that's dark/agressive/weird/psychedelic/grand shares many things with metal.

So mentioning punk rock shits, 70´s rock shits, industrial, cold wave, post punk, noise etc is too obvious.

Mentioning rap and reggae now THAT's relevant. For it has nothing to do with metal whatsoever.

I felt like quoting NOVEMBER NÖVELET, love that cold popish electro band but it has ties with the electronics/noise/cold wave so...

I like tons of non metal stuff, and I'm embarrassed by none of it. I have also bypassed that age where I'm concerned with what others think.....
