Never heard the Amorphis album(s) you're referring to, but stuff like Swano-Moontower, first coupla Traumatic Voyage albums, and first two Incubator albums might interest you. I doubt any of them are quite what you're looking for, but they might be close enough. Or not. Very Happy

edit: lol shit, just realized you meant Thousand Lakes. I thought they had some newer album called 1000, LOL. None of the stuff I suggested has any real resemblance to it; they just have a hard-rock vibe (or psychedelic, in TV's case), more or less.

Moontower would be the closest in my opinion also, it's got all the signature synth melodies etc, but comes nowhere near in terms of having great, memorable songs.

I just listened to Moontower today and.. no wait.

I just listened to Dan Swanö's Moontower today and I keep finding it better and better each time. Probably because over the last decade, it has been getting easier for me to digest all things proggy and/or experimental. Sure it's quite sophisticated and calm as far as death metal goes and the sharp synths are almost straight from early 80s british prog rock, but it all grew on me. A lot of this is like a meeting of Opeth and Amorphis. The vocals are exceptionally good too.

Moontower owns. I don't see how any EOS fan could not like it, or how anyone into rock 'n roll that isn't instantly repelled by 'harsh' vox couldn't like it. It's just a good album. I don't think it's as, uh, 'layered' (?) as the Amorphis album, but it isn't trying to be. I think it's great for what it is.

Was just going to post this, but I'd check both albums actually and not just the first one. They even have 2 members from that era of Amorphis.

I think it is closer to psychedelic black metal, but you might say death, but a good original band in this vein (no keyboards that I remember) is UMMON (Fra) - 'Retreat" (2011) demo (Visceral Circuitry Records).
