Is that Palamino amp the one produced by Crate?

Yeah man, but it's not a Crate design so it's technically not a Crate hahaha

If there is one amp I wish I still had, it's that one. Me bandmates still give me shit for getting rid of it. If I ever find another one, it's mine! If you do find a 50H, I suggest snaggiing it even if you have to sell testicles or sperm. I would rather have another 50H than two balls...

Dude, those amps all got snagged up by the quasi-hipster stoner/sludge types, along with the Sunn Model Ts. Aside from an estate sale, or a disgruntled wife selling off her ex's stuff there is no way to get them for reasonable prices now.

Changing gears slightly, since nobody wants to talk about tubes, what about delays?
Anybody have any interesting analog delays they tried?

I swear by the Malekko 616. Definitely sounds like an analog delay, not sterile and clean. I sold my big box memory man recently because I stopped using it..... and cheap, you can snag a used one for 100 bucks.

I've got an EHX Memory Boy, it gets very dirty sounding past a certain (not very long at all) time setting and has some very interesting features but its more suitable for making wierd noisy shit than anything else. I'd rather have a different one tbh.

I've been using the Boss Space Echo lately. Not analog, but it's really warm sounding. MXR's Carbon Copy is really cool too, but I'm pretty fanatical about tap tempo so I go digital.

The best sounding delay I've come across is the Empress Superdelay Vintage Modified. The only downside to it is that as far as I'm aware it doesn't have any kind of option for "delay tails" when you bypass it, which in my opinion is tragic!

mein amp

Carvin '95 Valvemaster and a Sunn 2x12 (logo was off when I purchased it). It's loud as balls, and sounds awesome.

Peavey in the background is not mine, white telecaster is mine, but I need a guitar soon for telecasters are not ideal for metal.

Everything by Empress is expensive.

It reminds me of a story I heard from an old TV repair guy that my dad was friends with. Back when VHS was king, there came a time when there were basically only two or three manufacturers of the transport mechanism, (I cant remember who they were). The manufacturer that made the best ones, sold them to another manufacturer that assembled them in some really poor country who then sold them to distributors. They were exact copies of the premium units but sold for one third the price. Not cheap copies, they were exactly the same.
But nobody bought them, until some marketing guy doubled the price. Then they sold like hotcakes. People didnt like the idea that they were buying an "off brand" even though every review said it was amazing.

Moral of the story: Market yourself as "premium", "b00teek" or whatever the fuck, make something half decent and charge up the ass.
Some faggot made a "Black Metal" distortion pedal, with pentagrams and "kvlt" bullshit all over it. Limited release of course. Charged like 150 for it. Turns out it was a clone of the Artec soloist. Washburn also makes the exact same circuit in a cheesy plastic case for twenty dollars.

I'm fixing a small spring reverb by Empress (6" tank) right now. I havent heard it, so I cant say if its worth the price in terms of sound quality and portability. But it definitely is not in terms of materials. Four opamps, a "home" quality PC board, a small reverb tank etc...
I purchased a small reverb tank like that one for like five bucks and the rest of the shit couldnt cost more than 20 if I didnt shop around.

I didnt pay for it, a "partner in crime" traded some junk for it, and it was already busted. Which is why he got it for almost free. I think the plan is to trade it for a 2 track reel to reel for mixdowns and flanging.

Im not bashing Empress (their customer service sucks, thats it), but when the retail price of a pedal that a high school kid can make in an afternoon is as much as a good used tube amp.... Rolling Eyes
Edit: Upon further examination, that Empress super delay does look pretty impressive. Those kinds of features are well beyond DIY.

You should watch that Fuzz: The Sound That Changed The World documentary. There's basically one guy who just talks shit on these boutique builders and their relentless lines of bullshit and it makes the whole thing worth watching....

"True bypass??!? You kids don't even know what that fucking means!!"

Laughing

i find the same thing with mine-its pretty spacious when used with less gain but the modulation kinda takes over the repeats and turns it into a dirty chorus/vibrato which wasn't what i was after...i'm actually hocking it so i can get another 616.
for a cheap great sounding delay i swear by the ibanez de-7,the echo mode is fantastic considering it's price.I'm also running an earthquaker devices Dispatch master for washed out ambient bits.
