Storm of the Light's Bane would win even if it consisted only of "Night's Blood" and a bunch of Abba cover songs.

Somberlain is still, of course, damn near untouchable.

The Somberlain gets my vote; a totally flawless album. But that's not to say SotLB isn't amazing itself. Just the melodies from the Somberlain seem to be almost permanently stuck in my head. It's an unfair advantage really... Laughing

Storm of the Light's Bane for me. It feels like a more refined version of the ideas they had on The Somberlain. It is without a doubt Dissection's finest hour.
I couldn't imagine their discography without the Somberlain though.

Both are stellar releases, but Storm nudges the Somberlain out by a cunts hair.

Some time ago I would have said that Somberlain is better, but when listened it after a long break, noticed that it contains just two outstanding songs and rest are just mediocore or ok's.

One can notice that record is done right after their turning from death metal to more black metal style cause songs are so different. You can easily spot which ones are from later era and which from earlier era.

Storm... is much more solid.

Two very different albums, both pretty much perfect, but I've spent far more time listening to Storm of the Light's Bane.

This!
And it has Thorns of crimson death on it which is my favourite Dissection song.

Agreed. That's not to say Somberlain isn't a masterpiece but SotLB is on a different level.
