Gris' Il Etait Une Foret is a killer. Finally got email from Sepulchral prod that "À l'âme enflammée, l'äme constellée" will be released June 24th and it's available for pre-order!! FINALLY!

I'll jump on the Menace Ruine bandwagon here, In Vulva Infernum especially is mesmerizing. I haven't been following 'em after Cult of Ruins, is there a reason to rectify this?

About lesser known albums, the self-titled debut of Ur Falc'h is one that springs to my mind from the Quebecois scene. Grandiose, slightly melancholic black metal with suitably wintry ambience. It's been six years already since that one, I'm hoping that he'll continue with that style someday. I remember being left a tad unimpressed with his work as Nordmen, though.

ugh. y'all have added to the things-that-will-help-me-procrastinate-at-work. i'm planning on a big 'ol order with fallen empire once the shop is back up.

i gotta take a break and actually listen to all of the cassettes and vinyl i ordered over the past few days. i think i might have something like 20-30 cassettes/vinyls coming my way over the next couple of weeks.

Akitsa is really a "love it or hate it band". Probably my favorite from Québec.

If some of you are into more atmospheric stuff, I cannot recommend you enough the latest CSEJTHE album. Very very good!

For those into more traditional, raw stuff, check out Brume d'Automne (which also blends a few tipycally folkish Québecois elements) and Neige Éternelle!

When I first heard Akitsa a couple of years ago it didn't really jive with me, but I happened to toss em on the other day and was getting super into it.

I'm big on soundscapey music (Arvo Part/Harold Budd/etc etc etc) and also totally dig the most recent Csejthe record. If you have other recommendations in that direction that'd be cool!

Okay! Then give a listen to Grimoire's "À la Lumière des Cendres". It is Csejthe's drummer solo project.

Forteresse's "Par Haut Bois et Vastes Plaines" might appeal to you too. This album stands out from the rest of the discography, since it is really mid-tempo oriented, and has some keyboards too.

Enjoy!

Their first two demos will appear on vinyl sometime soon.
Chatiment is also a good Quebec band although they only have one sold out demo. I imagine they'll put out more stuff eventually.

I like it a lot. It isn't a revolutionary milestone or anything but it is quality raw stuff with good riffs and atmosphere.

Akitsa
Gris
Ephemer
Forteresse
Chasse-Galerie
Brume D'Automne

The separatist bands I've listed are among some of the best, though.
