Just moved to Chicago back in late May to take a position up here. Wondering if anybody can give me a heads up on Chicago Metal obscurities? Seems it's always a hair easier to track down people involved/original demos - records when you are in the original members HOME TURF. Got my eyes open for both those Funeral Bitch demos...what else should a guy be looking for?

Pretty sure Chicago area is pretty well documented and picked over. You'll surely find some cool stuff but I wouldn't expect to find Paradoxx or Slauter Xstroyes in a dollar bin these days.

I always wanted to go to Metal Haven in person, I don't think it exists anymore

Yeah drinks - I'm not thinking of walking into anywhere and just gripping rippers. I understand how the game works. Just wondering if anybody could toss off names or individuals involved in the scene that might not have gotten the reissue treatment or the exposure at the time.

How about good metal from Chicago that did not get it's due justice?

I really like most of the bands that come from there. My latest discovery was MALAS! Great Chicago death metal!

Heres a list I made some time ago to not forget what I still have to buy/check out:

Enticed - Enticer
Church and State - Iron Cross
Mayhem Inc.
Amid Its Hallowed Mirth - Novembers Doom
Walk the Plank - Poison
Intense Brutality - The Dead Youth
'83 Demo - Witchslayer

maybe some names are not common to you as well.

Actually a friend of mine found the Winterhawk LP here, literally in a dollar bin, just last year! But you're right, that's quite unusual. Most dealers know what the rarities are and will aim high with them. Even that comp LP with the Paradoxx track (I forget the name) is usually in the $50 range when it pops up.

Vincebus Eruptum - intro to Enticer's Awakening is fucking ridiculous. Can't get over it.
SLAVE - YOU HAVE FAILED ME AGAIN MISERABLY!

Wow, yes, that is pretty lame. Just checked out overlord back then...

Getting the Winterhawk lp for a few dollars would be my all time score. this album is absolutely brilliant!
Does this pop up regularly in the CHicago area, for say 50-100$ or does it have the Ebay prices?

Check out Terminal Death demos, reissued this year in a compilation album.
Some ancient retro death metal in a total unique Chicago style.

Enforcer "High Treason" demo is great; it has a War Cry vibe in it.
