1988 as a 8yo kid, it was anthrax, testament, iron maiden, fuckin def leppard!! Smile etc all those more or less popular bands back then. ( fuck even BRAVO had 2-page of articles about the thrash/hm metal scene back then) i recall us 3 guys/kids saving our money to buy the shit only for the 2 pages of metal . there was a small article on page 2 advertising/reviewing the new releases in metal.we actually bought the mag only to see the names of the bands & covers of albums coz we didnt understand German language at all, and we used to go to these places downtown where you could buy dubbed tapes with xeroxed covers for real cheap. i remember also that i got beaten up at school by older joks for wearing a black motorhead "rock n roll" shirt. hehe.. weird times.

My dad used to listen to a lot of stuff like King Diamond, Venom, and Celtic Frost...when my mom divorced him, I ended up with a package in the mail with all these tapes. I still have some of the tapes and lps he gave me.

I lost interest by the time I hit middle school. I was listening to a lot of stuff like Poison Idea, Discharge, GISM, and Gauze.

...then we had an exchange student from Japan who was into Bulldozer, Hellhammer, and Beherit...he re-awakened my interest in underground metal...here I am today.

A Friends older sister turned us on to UFO & RUSH in 1977 the summer between 6th & 7th Grade (we were all already listening to KISS & Ted Nugent)...got into JUDAS PRIEST & SCORPIONS in 1978 and it grew from there... got the METAL FOR MUTHAS album when it first was released & got into Maiden and all the NWOBHM scene...then spent the Summer of 1981 over in Europe mostly in Copenhagen and Norther Germany...went to BRISTOL MUSIC in Copenhagen...thay had a METAL DUNGEON in the basemant...scored WEAPON 7 Inch...VARDIS 7 Inches...RAVEN 7 Inches...TYGERS OF PAN TANG 12 Inch... First GIRLSHOOL & SAMSON Releases...HEAVY LOAD...EF BAND...etc, etc, etc,... bought so many records I had to buy another suitcase to get tham all back to the USA...
Lived in Wichita, knew the Manilla Road guys casually, a friend painted the cover to M.R. INVASION....
Moved to DC next in 1983 and jammed in a band with a guy who was a roadie for THE OBSESSED, his name was DREW ADRIAN, and he had another guitarist named MARK STRAUSBURG, I moved to Germany and those two guys became the band INDESTROY some months later...
Moved from DC to GERMANY from Jan 1984 to October 1986, back when METAL RULED THE WORLD...saw so many shows and bought so much cool shit I could write a book...came back to the States in late 1986...went to college in 1987 and became a Metal DJ while getting my degree in broadcasting...interviewed: DEATH ANGEL, RIGOR MORTIS, ANVIL, FATES WARNING, etc...
Started label & distro in 1990...on & on it goes...

My big brother gave me a Metallica tape as a joke when I was 8 or 9, expecting me to shit my pants. I loved it. The rest is history!
