I recently blind-bought Raise Your Fist and Yell and really fucking liked it. All I've heard besides that is his third album Love It To Death and his hits like Poison. Any experts who can guide me through his discography?

Well its from a different era, but Welcome To My Nightmare is a rock classic and rightly so. Lots of good tunes on that one. Excellent production. His 80s stuff mostly sounds glam so if that turns you off avoid it. Havent heard much other stuff other than that.

Thanks. I've heard Welcome To My Nightmare mentioned quite a few times. I'll make sure to check it out.
Raise Your Fist and Yell was obviously very 80's Glam Metal sounding, but I really didn't mind that. A few of the songs had a cool George Lynch vibe to them. Good stuff.

I'd recommend "Killer" from his 70's stuff.

A "greatest hits" comp. could be a good place to start as well.

Alice Cooper was a band until Welcome To My Nightmare which is his first solo album. Most people don't know that because he coined the name of the band as his stage name, similar to King Diamond.

Pretties For You and Easy Action are great, more drug influenced and weird. Similar to the classic psyche sound. Definitely the weirdest in their discography.

Love It To Death (my personal favorite) and Killer are a little more commercial for the time. Very rockin' and have a lot of bangers. They were headed towards commercial success.

School's Out and Billion Dollar Babies are awesome albums too. You could tell at this point that Cooper was becoming the forefront of the band. Still lots of strong songs but not as great as the first four, imo.

I don't fuck with much else.

Killer is one of the great rock records as far as I'm concerned. Doesn't get much better than Halo of Flies. Welcome to My Nightmare is another fantastic record. Almost as good as Killer.

I'm not familiar with a huge chunk of his work, but as far as later stuff goes, I really like Brutal Planet. It's pretty modern sounding, but it's about as close as he got to "heavy metal", and the songs are just good.

My top three are Killer, Billion Dollar Babies and Love It To Death. The Coop fuckin' rules man, he is pure rock n' roll.... I was supposed to see him this summer with Maiden but the fucking stupid lineup was too long and I missed it.

All the classic stuff has been mentioned. I also like Constrictor and RYFAY largely for nostalgic reasons. I think FTF is also worth checking out.

Alice Cooper has covered most every genre at some point so its hard to say whats essential, now that there is no 'typical Alice'.

if you liked Raise your fist and yell- Hey Stoopid and Constrictor would be the obvious ones to go for next- those and his dark Comeback album "Brutal Planet"

my favorites are his late 70s Rock albums 'From the Inside' and 'Lace and Whiskey'.

the essential early 70s are as mentioned 'love it to death', 'killer' and 'schools out'.

Hey Stoopid was one of the first tapes I bought, based on seeing Wayne's World 4000 times as a wee shaver.... and he makes that movie man..... I'm gonna have to revisit that one of these days.....

I have Goes To Hell lp and I enjoy it a bit, but yeah, it's definitely "strange." I think I also bought Killer but haven't given it much attention, but I'll listen to it soon.
