Well, ORCUSTUS album should be right there. Tight and aggressive with sinister melodies.

MORTUUS's (Swe) LP is mandatory. released on ajna offensive in 2007.

I consider it to be the peak of all that orthodox devil worship BM from sweden. imagine a mostly slower version of watain fucking with ondskapt, but with better riffs and melody lines + a far more sinister atmo.

among my top 10 of the last 10 years ...

I believe what you are looking for is Nightbringer's split with Temple of Not and Death And The Black Work. It requires major skill to build such a wall of inspired riffs, plus I don't think they sound like something specific. However, judging by your taste I guess you would dismiss them as overrated upon first listen.

Another band you wouldn't love, but definitely like is Arfsynd. I enjoy quite a lot mid-tempo parts in black metal, for instance Mortuus' 'Supplication' is among my top favorite black metal songs of all time. But it requires truly great riffs to maintain such an atmosphere without making it sound forced or boring. Arfsynd don't really write riffs that great, but they're good, better than most praised orthodox bands imho.

First thing that came to my mind was Dødsengel - imperator. Modern without being fruity.

Nightbringer is a great band that also requires a quite unique "mood" to get into the music, definitely not the kind of band that you listen without paying attention.Temple of Not in the other hand is not my cup of tea at all, I find the music pretty hybrid and souless... But like I always say, to each his own.

I am rather partial to Acherontas. Really liked their track on the split with Nightbringer.

Averse Sefira. You can't go wrong with any of their albums. I am a big fan of Antaeus - CYAWS album and someone recommended me Averse Sefira when I was looking for something sharp and venomous sounding with excellent musicianship. If you don't already know about them, give them a try.
