Basically bass performances that don’t draw a lot of attention to them selves but unquestionably strengthen the power of the recording with a unique atmosphere that intelligently solidifies all the song elements together. IE the total opposite of Atheist!
Some of my favs:
GBK – Judeobeast & Kosherat
Burzum - Aske EP – very beautiful warm bass tone, one of the best in black metal.
Deicide – Legion – doesn’t deviate from the guitar root chords and remains utterly insane. _________________

Mgla have really nice bass. WHTN VII is a good example if you haven't heard what I mean yet. |

Aosoth - III & IV
Mayhem - DMDS
Deathspell Omega - Paracletus (and to a lesser extend the earlier releases as well)
Hmm...
Can think of many, good bassists know how to give that little extra to the music without overwhelming the rest of the music.
I'd say the epitome of the good bassist performance is early Black Sabbath! |

Under a Funeral Moon - the bass is rather loud on this album
Persecution Mania - nice distorted tone here
Legion - the bass cuts through and sounds so precise
War and Pain - another nice distorted tone |

I would have said Dodheimsgard's Kronet Til Konge, but there are those few moments when Fenriz just goes into a DIIUU DI DOIDIUUDIUDI bass spasm.
Need to think about this later. Meanwhile, feast on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GgQapS-Zog (that swirling downwards part is a nice touch) _________________ §:-«l |

Andy Ramage's bass playing on the first Argus album REALLY stands out to me. The second album as well, but the first in particular. |

I love the bass on Kvist's album... might even be too much though. Annthennath's full length has some awesome catchy bass too. |

Front Beast 'Black Spells of the Damned', particularly the track 'Candlelights'.
Prophecy of Doom 'Acknowledge the Confusion Master' (and the Peel Sessions) too... |
