19 y.o in 1993. Listened to A lot of Death Metal back then, but also followed whats going on in Underground scene. At that time my faves were : MORBID ANGEL,VADER , CARCASS , ATHEIST , MASS PSYCHOSIS , MAYHEM,BURZUM early EMPEROR , NECROMANTIA , AZHUBHAM HAANI. So there were no real split in the scene back in 1993. I enjoyed both Death and Black genres.

Im too young for this board. I did not get into "extreme music" until 8th grade (like 2006 or something) but I was into the crusty thing then and was more fascinated with bands like Last Days of Humanity and Dystopia, and the black metal i was listening to was Leviathan and Xasthur Embarassed

^^^probably rattle some cages. Cool

Not bad, I started around 2003 as well, one time I saw some dude wear a Varg Vikerness shirt and it struck me so I coincidentally saw somewhere online a pic of Varg and that's when I got into Burzum for many years after that. Mehh... Embarassed

I was about 7 years old... Around that point I think I had received my first walkman and was roaming around listening to Metallica, Nirvana, and Weird Al! Older friends of the family were inundating me into things like Prong, Tool and White Zombie. All of which definitely seemed heavier. By about 96 I started listening to Death Metal, and 97 I was on to the wonderful realm of Black Metal.

I would have been 'mixed race', listening to DM and BM. Black Metal I would have been listening to would include Darkthrone, Bathory, Impaled Nazarene. Had purchased THAT issue of Kerrang and definitely piqued my interest. Another influence would have been a weekly radio show that was pretty much an advertisement for Extreme Aggression/Modern Invasion Music that at the time was very much pushing BM.

Actually a decent year for shows here (Australia), Bolt Thrower and Fear Factory amongst other local shows. But in 1993 my main interest was masturbation and The X Files.
