that new breed comp is awesome. the album art is so awesome too, totally captures that late 80s vibe.

I grew up listening to quite a lot of hardcore/crossover alongside extreme metal back in the early 90's. For the most part I left it behind. However, I never stopped listening to classic AF (up to 'Liberty & Justice'), everything ST released until 92', Heresy, Conflict, Amebix, Discharge, Fugazi, Oi Polloi, and I'm still a sucker for some of the classic melodic stuff like Bad Religion and gulp... NOFX.

Hard to stomach the humanist sensibilities nowadays but its the music that has endured for me.

Haha.... I have this box set.....

I've been going berserk for MITB/Bastard Noise stuff lately. Especially Thoughtless, which I think is probably the best record they ever did.

And Gasp as well, Drome Triller Of Puzzle Zoo People is one of the best records to come out of the 90's scene.....

Bumped.

I've recently been warming up to Youth Crew bands and some 90s metalcore. Neither are my favorite style within hardcore but I'm starting to like it, nonetheless.

What I've been jamming:

Judge
Youth of Today
Strife
Earth Crisis (cannot decide how I feel about Gomorrah's End, it's REALLY chuggy which I usually can't stand, but it's an interestingly written album and definitely held my attention for what it's worth)
Shai Hulud
Madball
Bold
Gorilla Biscuits
Integrity
Coalesce
Warzone
Sheer Terror (basically, the band that made me rethink NYHC, their first album is amazing)

I even gave Hatebreed's first album a chance but shut it off mid-album. Horrible.

And the end all, be all of HC...VOID! (Yes Void is IMO the single best HC band of all time. Please go fucking carve your femoral artery open)

"Condensed was the flesh that the Nazis acquired,
When they tore the bodies from the barbed wire
In Dachau they burned the cadavers to brown
Never escaping the terrible sounds of...
Condensed Flesh bubbling with heat
Condensed Flesh they killed in glee...

Void the best HC band? Eehhhhh...I don't know about that one...

Perhaps I was a bit overdramatic (somehow a night of booze and straightedge bands has that effect) but Void is pretty damn untouchable. Can't get enough of the unhinged psychotic chaos they produced. Anyone heard the comp Dischord put out recently? I might have to snag that from the local shop.

Void creates some of the most chaotic hardcore ever put to tape. Been a favorite since I discovered them.

Aside from my attempts to get into late 80s/90s hardcore, I've also been listening to a lot of stuff from Toronto.

Hardcore seems to be returning to the 80s now that metalcore/beatdown is a dying trend.

If that is true it must be one of the most relieving things I've heard in years. So goddamn tired of all this godawful musclehead douchebag rock. The words "Victory Records" still make me cringe.

Fuck yeah.

I'm sceptical of checking out their newer stuff bc I have a feeling it'll never fill the void they did back then....

Warzone is unforgivable garbage. Stop listening to it.

Gomorrah's Season Ends is definitely eXc's darkest album. I bought it the day it came out and definitely took a few listens to warm up to it. But it's damned good.

Shai Hulud is a guilty pleasure.

If you're on a youth crew kick, listen to to Alone In A Crowd. Definitely the best East Coast band of that era and style. The best classic youth crew bands are still Chain Of Strength and Insted, though.

There was so much good metallic hardcore in the 90s. Definitely one of the scene's most fruitful eras. Groundwork, Countervail, Unbroken, Dawn Of Orion, Catharsis, Prevail, Acme, Bloodlet, You & I, early Converge, Race Traitor, Excessive Force, the first Eighteen Visions EP on Life Sentence (before they became fags), even cheeseball shit like Morning Again.

I can talk about 90s hardcore for hours. I went to shows all through the 90s and bought records the whole time. Should never have sold my vinyl.

Hell yeah! Been revisiting some of those gems last week.
All Out War, Bloodlet, Earthmover etc. I love that stuff!

The style is also played again by some bands. Incendiary for example:

I loved Carol (even though the only recorded a few tracks), Systral, Acme, Morser.... Acrid, Bombs of Death, tons of cool stuff, but a lot of dangerous crossover into screamo territory with that stuff....
