One has to separate the artist from his work and his persona, otherwise you can't enjoy much music any more. The moment an artist releases his music to the public, it doesn't only "belong" to him exclusively any longer (not meaning copyrights, of course). Every recipient has it's own microcosm in what record X or band Y can enter at a certain point in his life, the associations the listener makes are completely different from every other fan (and the band/artist himself), it depends on time, circumstances, personal preferences etc. No one feels the same about any piece of art, so the creator behind it (and his intention) is not really relevant for me as a consumer.
An example for me would be BBH: I heard these bands post 2000, I don't understand a single word of their lyrics/message and have never been to Russia either. Still, they create a perfect vision in my mind, without having any connection to anything they represent.
Of course, there are limits (or better exceptions, in extreme cases). For example, I don't think people are still playing Gary Glitter on a 70ies retro-night. |

I am not too familiar with neither his discography nor his fanbase. |

Anvil
I guess that only a serious case of retardation could keep those guys putting out shitty album after shitty album... even if they had to finance it by themselves
Had the documentary contained few more actual Anvil-tunes people might have understood WHY Anvil never made it... |

Oh right, Anvil. Some years ago they were on Conan O'Brien and performed, I think, Metal On Metal. It was like a huge malfunctioning brain trying to understand what the fuck it is doing.
The documentary was actually alright and I kind of felt sorry for the guys trying so hard for so long. The music however, is far from alright. I hate that blockhead pro-life party metal with a vengeance. _________________ §:-«l |

It was funny when the Anvil documentary came out and all of sudden all these Anvil fans crawled out of nowhere and big tours were arranged. Nobody gave a fuck about Anvil 10 years ago. They were just laughed on for their shitty music. _________________
