Folks,
I will be in Austin next month for a week long holiday ... what are the essential things to see/do/check-out/eat/drink - both METAL and Non-METAL related!
Also, what should I not do/avoid ...

During a business trip last year I dropped by the End of Ear record store. They seemed to carry a fair amount of good metal there, much more than I can find at Grimey's, my local shop. I was able to pick up the Axeman LP the day it came out!

End of an Ear is mandatory, huge selection of stuff. If you happen to be coming within this week you'll be hard pressed to not have anything to do because SXSW is going on. Tons of shows, films and drinking to be watched/enjoyed/done. |

wear a gasmask, place smells like shit during the big crowds of hipsters/bums. went there for a day of SXSW and Chaos last year. there is the Jester King Brewery you might want to visit or get a few bottles from at a store, and for eats Austin has some of the best BBQ spots in Texas along with a couple of pretty good pizza places (Hoeks Death Metal Pizza and Hoboken Pie are the two i know of, both downtown). there's a BBQ place called Salt Lick in Round Rock outside of Austin that's been on the Travel Channel a few times and the food looks amazing but i havent made it there yet. i never went to End of an Ear but i've heard its good and there was another store called Encore that wasn't that great but i found a couple cool 7" there.

I drank a lot of Lone Star at ROD III, can't remember anything about the taste of it though.

How is that Black Metal Jester stout? I'm not a really big stout fan, but I will drink them occasionally, for example I enjoyed Terrapin's Wake ‘N Bake Coffee Oatmeal Stout.
