Other than having the best subgenre name ever, what is really "powerviolence"?
From what I've heard, PV kind of brings to the extreme consequences the raw and harsh nature of the original '80 hardcore sound, be it fast or slow but always misanthropic and on the verge of collapse.
Metal riffs galore but far from "metalcore" rigidity, and no wiggerisms in sight. No d-beat abuse either.
Right?

Any recommendations etc?
Been listening to Scapegoat s/t in the last few days, not bad.

Fixed for you.

You really don't need to delve deeper than that within that genre because it's all been a bad rehash of the same stuff with the exception of very few interesting records here and there for the last 25 years.

Powerviolence was cool when it was predominated by
hardcore gangsters and pcp freaks instead of these xveganx
agenda having scene lords.

Lack Of Interest is fun.

Spazz, as much fun as they are ruined the genre.
Iron Lung is the real deal though. All others are
Falseholes.

Infest is not powerviolence. It's just really fast and
really good.

Spazz is awesome. Great live band too. Though, if you can't take humor with your music, definitely do not entry.

Infest has always been grouped in with the original MKI powerviolence, along with Crossed Out, MITB and No Comment. It never had a defined sound, which is why it differed from the other scenes in the 90's. The Locust used to get grouped in with the second wave even......

Basically, Crossed Out then all the rest. That's where I'm at. Spazz had its moments and while a lot of the funnier splits haven't help up, La Revancha is the fuckin' jam, man.....

I can understand people dismissing Spazz as stupid but Infest? I guess it's a matter of influences for them.

I mean (and that's why I think the OP's description of the genre is skewed, because it's analysed through some "metal" state of mind which omits the hardcore background of those bands), imho, Infest sounds like an evolution of bands like Siege or Deep Wound mixed with earlier USHC bands such as Negative FX (for the speed) or Boston bands like SSD.

I don't think Spazz and Infest had the same goals.

Thanks professor! I'm sure that's exactly what he was thinking. Rolling Eyes

Youth Attack and their part of the Possessed to Skate comp are excellent, but the remainder of their discography is pretty so so. I have the 100+ track discography CD and I listen to about 30 of the songs.

Funny that this topic has come up, I've been on a huge kick of revisiting this genre lately. I haven't heard any new powerviolence releases since about 1997, with the exception of the Capitalist Casualties/Hellnation LP. What's good since then?

EDIT: I now recall that I have really enjoyed the Pleasure Cross demo recently.
