Only band I know of playing this kind of stuff is Resurgency, who are pretty good. Worth checking out --

Are there any other current bands playing this style (Monstrosity, Brutality, Malevolent Creation, etc) and playing it well?

Check out Gorelust. They recently reformed and their '95 debut, Reign of Lunacy (reissued just last year and streamable here), is a good mix of early '90s New York and Florida DM. Hopefully their new stuff will be in the same vein.

This style of DM needs a resurgence. Too much boring Autopsy/Entombed/Incantation worship these days - and most of these clone bands fail anyway. This is great shit with cool leads. |

It was the place in Flordia a lot of Death Metal bands went to in the early 1990s. I can understand US bands heading there but there was even European bands flying over there to work with Scott and Tom. Seemed kinda pointless.

Last thing I read was that he was making a living off computer-related stuff, programming or something, I believe there's an interview with him on Voices from the Darkside. I really miss his trademark Morrisound production, granted some albums ended up sounding a tad too similar but it was heavy as fuck. His albums and Skogsberg's were the soundtrack of my teen years.
