I'm a big fan of swedish död metal, so most likely thatswhy I have always dissapointed when hearing new swedish death metal bands, especially those old-school-retro-ones...
But that was before I heard VANHELGD. Fuck, how can anyone sound so traditional but still so fresh at same time. It sounds so swedish, but also have hints of Paradise lost and Asphyx, _________________ Mors fennico more |

Is it just me or do most of these Swedeath bands consist of anorexic 14 year old girls with Heavy Metal and Thrash Metal projects on the side? lol |

Indeed. Vanhelgd has a unique sound and is one of my favorite NWN bands.
I like some of the other newer Swedish bands, e.g., Bastard Priest, Miasmal, and Maim, just to name a few. However, Vanhelgd brings something fresh to the table, and that's what sets them apart for me. |

No I wouldn't say that. Clearly some of them are less interesting and made it (relatively) big thanks to the death metal revival of the past five years exclusively, but there certainly are several talented bands with the right know-how of the genre. They might not be the new Dismember perhaps but that's no reason to turn them down. _________________ Permabanned |

Repugnant and Vanhelgd are excellent examples. |

Repugnant, Tribulation and Verminous have all ended up being bands I enjoy in a long term sense. They all seem to have staying power in terms of replay value as well.
Honestly though, that's about it for me. I've heard lots of these new dodsmetal acts and many have seemed good at first but virtually all of them ended up being forgettable after a few spins.
I'd rather go see a lot of these bands live than buy the records at this point. |

I wish there were bands trying to capture the oddball-yet-heavy vibe of Pan-Thy-Monium or the strangeness of later Afflicted and Disharmonization era Carbonized _________________ www.mendicantmusic.com |

Repugnant, Necrovation, Verminous, Kaamos and Vanhelgd
I've heard plenty of other bands and enjoyed them, but these are the ones I can see myself listening to (somewhat) regularly in years to come...
hmm, I guess I could add Tormented too... |
