I'm going to spend 2 weeks in Vancouver (april / may).
Any recommendations for record shops, where to eat / what to drink... are welcomed.
The same goes for Victoria. Of course a treasure hunt with my daughters in Ross Bay cemetery is already scheduled.

haven't lived there for like 8 years now, but the Ivanhoe was always a doozy for having a beer and narrowly missing a murder

what kind of food/drink you looking for? can suggest a ton

interested in record shopping?
Audiopile is the best for punk/metal, lots of good used moved through the shop.
Selectors Records is a great store that my friend owns - minimal, experimental, industrial, techno etc.
Red Cat Records - never actually been here but I've been hearing good things about it for years. lots of rare experimental stuff, great imports and reissues.

there are lots of other record stores in the city, I haven't done much record shopping there in the last few years, but those three are worth checking out.

you'd know better than I would, but i think i covered the best places to check out with selectors and audiopile (and red cat from things i've heard). hits and misses wasn't open long and the one time i went while it was in vancouver it wasn't great.

Nearly 4 years since I've lived there but doesn't seem like much has changed. Hits and Misses certainly lived up to its name...

Red Cat I've bought maybe 1 or 2 things there ever. Definitely an "indie" store. Neptoon and Dandelion same boat.

Zulu sometimes doesn't know how to price things so you can find some rarities for very cheap. The question is whether the venture out to Kitsilano for some potential luck is worth it or not.

But, yeah, for punk/metal Audiopile is the best bet.

yeah I've never been to Zulu. any time in the last six years that I've been in Vancouver and been close to Kits it's either to drive through or go to the beach.

Hits & Misses was amazing in Toronto. Got a lot of great stuff there when it was there 2009-2012 or so. I heard good things about the one in Vancouver, like any place that deals primarily in used records i guess it really depends on the day you're there. All I bought there was a super clean copy of Black Rose and the Skeleton LP.
