Before the Vice-age of USBM, was a time when forums like FMP and Krieg were ablaze and a band like Judas Iscariot would partner up for splits with the European orthodox elite (Antaeus etc.). Those days are long gone, but I still cherish a few of it's manifestations. Judas Iscariot being one of them. So let's take a trip back to an unspoiled time and share our collective memories.

Two mighty warriors from ancient times who battled against the rise of jewish commercialism Laughing

Voted for Heaven in Flames, because I used to like it back in the early 2000s. Got tired of this band (and other UG heroes of that era) when the internet fans emerged and it was their gateway to black metal right after they discovered COF & Dimmu.

Ps. One thing I forgot to mention is the session drumming of Duane Timlin aka Cryptic Winter on the later albums. I remembered the drumming going from ultra sloppy to competent, but listening to it now I realize what a drum god Duane was. Really impressive feel and speed. I remember his appearance creation a bit of controversy among the older fans. Some of them felt that the true spirit of the band was lost, while others hailed Heaven In Flames to be Akhenaten's strongest effort. Anyone remembering this?

Not something I've listened to a lot through the years but I have some of his releases.
Voted for To embrace the corpses bleeding.

This project was very inconsistent in quality imo. Thy dying light for instance is utter shit I think.

I think he knew Timlin from that Sarcophagus band where they both played?
When I think of it, this was my first visual contact with Akhenaten when I saw this pic in a zine around 96-97 Laughing

Timlin is a fuckin' beast of a drummer. The latter JI stuff with him is my fave no doubt.

heaven in flames for me, with to embrace the corpses bleeding coming in close second.

yes, JI's output was very inconsistent, but some of the later stuff was very good. not something I listen too often to though.

Thy Dying Light & Distant in Solitary Night for me. They have that sloppery charm of '90s. Also Distant.. has one of the most beautiful covers in bm history.

Gotta say though, in the age of vegan framed glass feminine black metal even Kanwulf looks ok in comparison.

Dethroned....Cryptic Winter is one hell of a drummer and Benevolent Whore is one of the bestest JI songs ever.

Judas Iscariot was one of the first black metal bands albums I started buying around year 2000. Much better than Krieg, Xasthur, Kult ov Azazel, Averse Sefira, and other generic shit that followed after.

Bought basically all the albums in one order back in 2000 or 2001. Thought some of it was half decent and a month later never listened to any of it again.

Maaaybe later did a few excursions to The Cold Earth Slept Below, Heaven In Flames and Thy Dying Light. But yeah, JI didn't last long for me. Still got all the stuff though. I don't feel compelled to go down that road again but who knows, I can handle some shit once in a while. I had the Akhenaten burning US flag... flag, too.

What are you guys referring to when you say "inconsitent"? I always found the music of Judas Iscariot to be rather uniform and formulaic, which could be a point of criticism of course.
