I miss them.I mean the first two albums.
I can't forget the shock of 'De Principii Evangelicum' when I bought it back in 2002.
Remember I played it all the time and couldn't find CYFAWS.I was so curious to hear if they can reach the levels of 'De principii''
They were band of my age (I saw their birth ,'prime' and end)and they probably rule all the rest French bands of that fantastic wave (early 00s).
Now spinning CYFAWS.
What a merciless catastrophic atmosphere. The grinding explosions and blasts make them more destructive ,along with hateful voice....
'De Principii..' on the other hand ,was more more claustrophobic, dark and 'black' in my ears.MKM voice is out of this world. And it's my favorite.

How inspired and unique were they.

This feeling maybe exists in Arkhon Infaustus two first albums but not exactly the same...

Nobody manage to copy them the years to follow.....

Total support. Blood Libels is a monster too, probably my favourite.

I'm with you there. I like everything until the last full-length, no matter how much I tried I could never get into it.

Injekting Khaos's first demo has a similar vibe. The first EP is good too.

First MCD and Blood Libels are the best ones. First two albums are not bad but never understood the praise for them.

CYFAWS still have an effect on me every time I play it. Great for driving around late night in my VW.

As far as I remember there never was much praise for Antaeus. Respected, yes. But there was a whole league of bands who got more attention and appreciation.
And that's also my opinion. I have all the albums, I enjoyed them back then and still enjoy them now. But they were never top of the genre.
I was kind of surprised to see two bands perform an Antaeus cover at Nidrosian black mass. Maybe because they were supposed to perform initially or so.

I like everything by this band. Definitely impossible to compare... I'd say the thing that comes closest to me is KTHRSS, VVVVE especially. Aosoth as well in some measure, though definitely very different as well.

I meant about this forum and the general consensus here. Everytime Antaeus is mentioned, it's more or less about Cut Yourself or DPE albums.

CYFAWS and DPE don't do much for me. Blood Libels is great though.

Relentless band in every way!! I'm very glad I got the chance to see them in Montreal in 2014. They were savage. Blood Libels is probably my preferred opus of theirs.

Agreed. I think DPE's drum sound is its main downfall, but the vocals are also too unsynchronized and overly ruminating on the satanic ritualization of overusing z's where s's would suffice and sometimes too many x's.

The other releases are far from worship worthy, but Blood Libels is highly cherished like fruits are to a fruit bat.

I think DPE's drum sound add points to overall atmosphere....Contrast...Endless blasts and ritualistic screams or low singing voices by MKM.
The definition of black metal.
And the personal stigma and contribution of Antaeus to black metal.
And their drum playing ,I'd say it's more black/grind ,not black death.

I feel a bit the same. CYFAWS and DPE are defnitely no bad records but Blood Libels just nails it in terms of production and atmosphere. I think it can be seen as precedessor of the direction Aosoth was heading on their III: V&V album. Now VI continue to walk this route with their debut album. All those bands have shared members who seem to push this sound further with every release, regardless of the moniker.

Great band; I like their entire discography, and Blood Libels was definitely their peak for me. MkM's vocals are great. Very intense, and genuine.

I remember listening to Blood Libels whilst being incredibly high before going to lectures at university and it being almost overwhelming. Ahh..nostalgia!

As mentioned, it does seem Aosoth and VI are continuing the work in a way.
