Plague Widow is a grind band, I think you're confused. Abyssal rules. _________________

Abyssal and Aethyrvorous clearly have Portal influences but I wouldn't in anyway call them Portal clones. They sound very different. _________________ Music:

I don't care if they take musical influence from the excellent band Portal, as long as they don't start wearing clocks on their heads..... _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/ngadke |

I always thought this had people from portal? I think impetuous ritual does a similar style quite well. I've seen some local support acts trying the portal thing the past two years. |

haha close enough I guess. All of those bands are awesome either way. Someone should put the Aethyrvorous on vinyl, it's kinda short but I'd buy it. |

Labelling bands such as Mitochondrion, Aethyrvorous, Aevangelist or Abyssals as mere Portal clones is too easy as I think they all sound quite different.
They may have a similar or comparable approach to music but riffing and structure are different.
So far I havenīt seen a band that try to rip off the visual style, admittedly. _________________ Oh, what fun we have when we exist.

You can call them clones or just find that the sphere of Portals influence is huge, and I for one think that is a really good thing - taking inspiration from a band like Portal is better than a lot of other places you could be influenced by in death meetal. I'm just musing here, but if I was told a band sounded like Portal I'd be more inclined to see what they're doing with that evil twisted atmosphere than any other kind of band.... because I guess they're at most paying homage to an atmosphere than a specific style and emulating down to the most minute detail (see black metal clones, Swedish death metal clones, etc) _________________ http://www.last.fm/user/ngadke |

abyssal sounds good, BUT . . . the overproduction of their recordings is problematic. they could only be disappointing live because there's no way in hell to get that kind of suffocating, crushing sound live without a serious budget that bands like this will never have. _________________ http://www.ugEXPLODE.com

As for Impetuous Ritual and Aethyrvorous, can they even count? ...these bands are literally neighbors are they not, or share members or at least have ties of friendship between the bands or so I assumed from reading various threads over this forum.
To me a clone would be a band from a whole other nation or location, that would have little exposure to the band they copy other than have heard the album then they replicate it, but these days it's not hard to have good friends on the other side of the globe and share ideas instantly, so the whole thing is moot.
Carry on... |
