Nice to see some Crystalium here. One of the very best, but very underated.

De Aeternitate Commando was actually the first black metal album that I ever heard !

This must have been a curious and intense experience for you ! This album and "Doxa O Revelation" are amongst my favourite in the french BM scene.
But like you said...unfortunately underrated.

Well, I was 12 years old and only knew AC/DC and The Offspring. So yes, "intense" is the word Laughing

interesting that it wasn't some classic BM stuff you came across with first. how was it? like some school buddy giving you the CD and said "check it out, this is some cool stuff I randomly found in some underground mailorder."? Confused

And then wy ears were raped Smile

SEIGNEUR VOLAND - Final Stand
KRISTALLNACHT - All
BEKHIRA - L'élu du mal
KPN - Macabre Transcendance
OSCULUM INFAME - Dor nu Fauglith

There are more but these are the ones that come to mind. The Vlad Tepes/Belketre split is great too, though there is far too much emphasis on LLN these days.

Not many worthwhile CDs imo; plus memory fading:

Funeral/ Osculum Infame Demo
Seigneur Voland ....something
Murmuüre
Winter Funeral demo
Seth: les blessures (vocals suck though)

I'll pick one release per band to keep things interesting.

1. Peste Noire - L'Ordure à l'état Pur
A wonderfully executed, self-aware album that truly is one of a kind. It has many layers, and every listen is bound to reveal something new, both lyrically and musically.

2. Sühnopfer - Nos sombres chapelles
Probably the best one-man band I can think of in terms of overall quality. The music itself strikes a perfect balance between melody and brutality. It is emotional without being obnoxious, and aggressive without being try-hard. Definitely recommended. Can't wait for the new album, either.

3. Mortifera - Vastiia Tenebrd Mortifera
Now, I normally don't like so-called DSBM for so often being sentimentally cheap and superficial. With that in mind, I don't really know why I do like this album. Maybe it's nostalgia (this is the very first piece of French black metal I'd ever heard), but the songs seem to have more staying power than your usual, more drawn-out DSBM effort. Also a great composition effort by Neige before he turned into the Hunter Hunt Hendrix of the French black metal scene.

4. Aorlhac - Opus I
Uncomplicated melodic black metal. Nothing really special, but I keep coming back to it.

5. Mütiilation - Vampires of Black Imperial Blood
Although I am somewhat cynical towards the whole LLN phenomenon, with its edgy kvlt English, its adolescent conception of being 'scary', and its laughable manifestoes, this album emits genuine sorrow from beneath the layer of try-hard nihilism. I must note, though, that the opening track has always appeared to me as considerably better than the rest of the album.

Daedalion - Ad Sacrificium Offerre Corpus Meum
Fhoi Myore - The Northern Cold
Gestapo 666 - Nostalgiah
Sombre Chemin - Doctrine
Vlad Tepes / Belkètre - March To The Black Holocaust

Not sure if important or influential but those are the first that came to mind when thinking about French BM
