Arcane razors bleed the sky as the weeping chords that summon theta-trances shimmer over raucous, galloping nightmares. The pulse of black blood within the earth is exploited with disharmonious treachery, breaching the path of wholesome replenishment with humiliation and rape. As the aboriginal body subverts the civilized rationale, so we are pushed by our unknown desire toward the dank crevices of Lilith’s womb. SORGUINAZIA are shamanistic butchers of pseudo-occult intellectualism, purveying pure cannibalistic black metal with preternatural fire, and VAULT OF DRIED BONES is proud to present their first, self-titled demo on professional cassette on November 4th, with a 12″ vinyl version to follow in March 2017, with the B-side to feature etched artwork.

Hailing from parts unknown, SORGUINAZIA are one of the most exciting newcomers VAULT OF DRIED BONES has come across. Proudly a self-contained duo, SORGUINAZIA weave a ghoulish ‘n’ ghastly sort of black metal, one that locates a wobbly balance between beyond-the-shade mysticism and soul-flaying insanity. Its innermost frequencies pulsate and mutate, warping the listener’s comprehension (and psychic DNA) with diabolical ease: a soundpool of gibbering, horrendous “notes” that somehow coalesce into rude yet strangely alluring shapes. The resultant sound of SORGUINAZIA is one that’s faintly recognizable as being performed by humans, but more so emits a sense of spiritual dislocation that thusly transports said listener far beyond the realm of man. Is there a return? Perhaps SORGUINAZIA’s imminent debut album for VAULT OF DRIED BONES will answer that, or forever seal the corridor…

NO CLEAN SINGING premiered the demo today

http://www.nocleansinging.com/2016/10/09/an-ncs-premiere-and-a-review-sorguinazias-debut-demo/

On their debut demo, Sorguinazia demonstrate impressive skill in conjuring visions of chaos, horror, and inescapable doom. In the space of only three songs, they immerse the listener in maelstroms of dense, violent, suffocating sound while casting dark and mesmerizing spells at the same time. You can easily imagine that the membrane between our own reality and a dimension inhabited by monstrous wraiths is being torn asunder, and we are being inexorably pulled into the vortex where they dwell.

Sorguinazia consists of two members — Axczor (vocals, bass, drums) and Xolaryxis (guitars, vocals). Their location hasn’t been revealed. Their self-titled demo will be released on tape by Toronto’s Vault of Dried Bones on October 31, and today is a good day to spread the word about it, because all three songs have just been made available for listening on YouTube, and we’re bringing all of them to you at the end of this review.

In genre terms, the music could be thought of as a hybrid of black and death metal that manages to be both bestial and atmospheric. It has been produced in a way that amplifies its unnerving and wholly enveloping impact, everything cloaked in a poisonous layer of distortion. The bass and drums sound immense, with the bass often generating a pulsating tone that you can feel in your gut. The riffs spawn lashing storms of abrasion, like a storm tide of knives crashing against a jagged shore.

Dissonant lead guitar melodies swirl, writhe, and slither through the songs as the music moves from cacophonous explosions of rampaging to ghastly, lumbering processionals. They give the music a pervasive supernatural feeling — cold, heartless, and alien.

The vocals are a key ingredient in the music’s nightmarish, unearthly aura. They are a bewildering, multi-layered, echoing array of demonic expressions — ominous chants, distorted roars, fierce shrieks, hideous howls of pain and fury.

If the songs were simply non-stop torrents of alien carnage, they might wear out their welcome, but there is more going on here than cyclonic violence. When the rampaging diminishes, there is a sense of ultra-dark and leviathan majesty rising, especially in the track labeled “I”, as well as sensations of inner dementia and the unstoppable approach of awful calamities.

Put differently, the music is often dramatic and sweeping, just as it is often supremely destructive. For music this cruel and abrasive, it wears the trappings of grandeur, too — and it’s surprisingly spell-binding.

In a nutshell, Sorguinazia’s first collection of songs is an enormously impressive new discovery from a band we now need to watch closely.

I find it quite enthralling, 1 listen through is never enough. Find myself repeating track I the most.

Transmissions from Transcending Obscurity

http://tometal.com/review/sorguinazia-self-titled/

When it comes to some of the best black and death metal from the underground, Toronto’s Vault of Dried Bones has been a regular contributor. One of their latest releases is the self-titled demo from Sorguinazia, a mysterious new duo whose location has not been revealed. But when the material is this strong, physical boundaries are not important, as what matters is the sheer density and merging of the violent and mystical throughout each of these three songs. Sorguinazia’s channeled elements of both atmospheric and warlike black/death metal throughout their demo, and with a full length set for next years this is a perfect introduction to a group that already has a sound that’s hard to pin down.

The opening song VI tricks you with a spacious riff that suggests something akin to Negative Plane, but that type of twisting and turning riffing quickly gives way to some incredibly dense and noisy material. As with some of the other black and death metal I’ve reviewed recently, Sorguinazia makes you work to pick out the details of their songs, placing everything under a dense wall of sound. But the effort is worth it, as underneath the abrasive edges and sheer volume of the demo are song structures that are a lot more interesting than the average black/death metal release. On the one hand, you have all-out blasting that wouldn’t sound out of place on a traditional second-wave black metal or even a war metal album. But in between these frantic assaults are subtle melodic leads that give off an otherworldly vibe, and even some straight ahead moments that have a bit more of a punk aesthetic to them. Sorguinazia doesn’t stay in one place for too long, and each of the three songs covers so much ground that it’s hard to pin them down into black or death metal. I can’t think of another band that has merged these elements in exactly this manner, as the way that the material seamlessly merges the chaotic, violent side of the genre alongside some punk edged riffing and sweeping cosmic/otherworldly melodies stands on its own.

This is yet another band where the vocals really help to set the material over the edge, and while it isn’t always easy to make out exactly what you’re hearing throughout Sorguinazia’s demo what does break through the wall of sound is genuinely terrifying. The main pitch comes in somewhere between a high pitched shriek and distorted chant/growl that reminds me a bit of Vorde. But there are other pitches that are off the charts, particularly once you get to the second and third songs. What stood out to me is the ritualistic feel that the vocals are often able to create, as alongside the melodic leads the vocals channel forth these bizarre and unnerving sounds that feel like they’re summoning something otherworldly into this dimension. As with the instrumentals, it’s likely to take a few times through to make out some of the details underneath the noise, but each listen is likely to reveal some new vocal quirks that weren’t evident earlier.

Sorguinazia has come out of nowhere with one of the most promising demos of 2016. With elements of death and black metal interwoven into a combination that doesn’t quite sound like anything else out there, it’s equal parts violence and otherworldly atmosphere that make a strong impression in a short period of time. The sheer volume and noise might prove a barrier to some, but if you’re like me and that helps to draw you in you’ll find that this group has a good deal of substance even this early on. With a full length due out next year, I suspect we’ll find Sorguinazia twist and turn into something even more unique and that’s an exciting prospect.

TOILET OV HELL review

If you’ve got sixteen minutes to spare and you’re open to spending them in exquisite spiritual agony, Sorguinazia has got something for you.

It’s a three-song demo which, for those of you of a certain aesthetic persuasion, will have you salivating for their impending debut full-length album for Vault of Dried Bones. In essence, this demo takes the full bag of tricks from black metal’s lauded second wave, drenches the whole thing in blood and tosses it in a cauldron full of rendered baby fat and rat feces. What this means sonically is that all these down-home razor riffs are blown out and cavernous, in danger of drifting off into some negative ether, anchored only by a smartly audible bass. The drummer isn’t afraid to throw in a heaping portion of maniacal fills—well-executed fills at that, which is something precious and rare in the world of raw black metal.

And the vocals. Oh the vocals. There are some classic black metal shrieks hiding in here, but most of the vocals sound like the artifacts of some bad trip, the memory of which you’ve not-so-successfully repressed through years of therapy, medication and spiritual retreats. There are strangely reverberating wails that are panned hard right or hard left, uncouth wobbling gibberish, and pre-verbal feral caterwauling. The total effect is charmingly off-its-rocker. It is as if Sorguinazia, standing on the shoulders of all the adepts that have come before, have finally struck upon the correct concoction of grimness, misanthropy and ritual blasphemy to scratch away the surface of this reality; they have not yet punched through the thin walls separating this universe from the other, but the dents they’ve made have rendered that which waits beyond menacingly audible.

In short, Sorguinazia is a band to watch. Not content to merely ape what worked for their genre forefathers, they are striking out with suicidal abandon into some unmentionable beyond.
