Most of the bands listed on here have some of the most important releases in Death Metal... but have disappointed in recent years.
I guess some may say this shits on their legacy, whilst others may think if they can milk a few bucks from blind fan worship in order to survive, then so be it. They deserve it.
For me the jury is out...Having spent my teenage years in the late 80s and early 90s I was lucky enough to see and hear the classics upon release.
But when I hear some of my favourites from that time new releases I cringe and shake my head. In this regard I would have to vote for other to cover the bands that released one or two albums and disappeared, like Nocturnus (The Key/Thresholds, not the reformed non Mike Browning version).
However it is hard to vote against Morbid Angel, Deicide, Death or any of the others..those guys transformed metal in the 90s, regardless of what they have done lately or having the misfortune to die from AID's. The legacy these bands left from their first few albums is untouchable, except maybe for influencing all the crap dime a dozen Incantation clones out there.
So at the end of the day all of the listed bands are legendary and anyone who can't understand their respective place in US Metal history is a raging faggot and can go slam their dick off to "great" US acts like Suffo and Dying Fetus.

P.s Nocturnus rapes all bands mentioned in this thread.

Then the mighty Autopsy/Abscess all albums and then the first two albums of Deicide

Morbid Angel, Necrovore, Nocturnus, Cannibal Corpse, Incantation, Immolation, Vital Remains, Derketa, Mortician, Disma. Pretty much in that order.

Edit: throw Exhumed in somewhere after Incantation and kick Disma from the top ten, I guess.
