Listening to the newest RfR 'Enter the Guantlet' again, at HHB right now FYI, while cleaning up some 7"s. Pulled out this gem. I remember getting this back in 2002 and then searching out all their other tracks on the Shifty comps. Was labelled as power violence, but I never really got that vibe compared to the other bands being labelled power violence at the time. Simple, ritualistic, dirty, plodding low end. Not really surprising since Noothgrush and Corrupted were also lumped into the power violence label sometimes being on the Reality comps and Slap a ham comps with tons of 'power violence' bands. Was really excited a few years ago to see Parasitic Records (Tim, the drummer's label) was going to put out a tape(s) of all their material.
Anyway, this band was one of the reasons I latched onto RfR so early, albeit more black metal. RfR cultivates that that low end, dirty, simplistic seed in me. Granted, ToB were not the sole purveyors or originators of this style, but it was the first 7" that really drove it home for me. Pretty low investment if you want a copy, I think it is $2.50 on discogs, or just go to any punk distro, it tends to show up. I think I have several copies I've collected over the years. Still hoping for that tape(s) to come out though.
