Probably not a popular opinion, but I think Impaled blows away Necroticism era Carcass (which to me sounds like their primary influence). Especially on Mondo Medicale and The Last Gasp.

Impaled sucks, but then again Necrotism isn't all that great either. Try Disgorge (Mexico) if you want some killer Carcass "worship".

This thread doesn't really work, in my opinion. Any band that's hailed as brilliant probably eclipsed its influences to some degree. Otherwise, no one would bother with rock music after the 50s, or no one would listen to metal beyond Black Sabbath, etc.

agreed.

Agreed 100%

That Carcass / Impaled comparison makes no sense in the context of this thread.

Impaled's a shit band for what it's worth.

Pseudogod > Archgoat

I like both almost equally, and maybe I haven't had as much time to listen to Pseudogod as I have Archgoat, but I find Pseudogod's more death metal compositions a bit more interesting.

Nar Mattaru

I know that some people worship Incantation and Dominus Xul, but I think that Nar Mattaru does it better than either.

Haha. I really like Nar Mattaru but no way is their album as great as Incantation's first two. They don't even do that style better than their fellow countrymen. I think Godless does the "Incantation clone" sound much better (at least the stuff on their EP) and even they don't come close to early Incantation's greatness.

And yes, I know ''it's all a matter of opinion''.

All I can say is that I disagree. I love the first two Incantation albums, but I think Dominus Xul's first is better than either of them. I like Godless, but it's not even in the same league as Nar Mattaru's full length, which is the best "Incantation" style death metal around to me.

Wow, do people honestly believe not only that Danzig is better than Elvis, but that he eclipsed him?

The Dead Shall Dead Remain is a hugely enjoyable album. So, I guess Impaled > The Knack or something.

"to eclipse"

1.
a. To cause an eclipse of.
b. To obscure; darken.

2.
a. To obscure or diminish in importance, fame, or reputation.
b. To surpass; outshine: an outstanding performance that eclipsed the previous record.

So, about what exactly are we talking here?
