Err, no matter how great The Comes are, their sound shaped Japanese hardcore much less than a few other bands mentioned already (such as Confuse/the Kyushu bands, Gauze (but not the super early stuff), Death Side, etc...) Actually, they always sounded quite "American" to my ears compared to many of their peers at the time. This is just my opinion though. |
I agree, they sound almost like a Boston or DC hardcore band more than a Japanese one, but you cant discount the quality of "No Side." One of the best Japanese HC records.
My top pick is of course GISM "Detestation", followed closely by Gauze "Equalizing Distort". Other favorites are Zouo " The Clay "Middle East Combat Area", Confuse "Spending Loud Night", Kuro "Who the Helpless", GAI "Extermination", first Crow LP... damn I'm about to fall down a Youtube rabbit hole with this Japanese stuff.

I didn't think people like early Crow. I think "Bloody Tear" is the pinnacle of their discography and one of the best records to come out of Japan these last few years (but on the other hand, the quality of Japanese hardcore bands has been seriously decreasing too.)
