Late 90's/early 00's was a great time for USBM for me. I was fully immersed at the time, went to shows, had great friends in the scene, created music that was both appreciated and hated.... My sense of nostalgia outweighs my sense of reality about that time. Hail victory Very Happy

I was born in 1991 so i never got to experience any of these bands, its great to hear people talk about the glory days because at least I get to hear about some bands I never heard of like Yamatu and Night Conquers Day which seem great. all i can ever do is imagine what it was like back then.

I love that metal dvd or whatever thats on youtube with black witchery, the chasm, thornspawn, blood storm, etc, the attitudes seemed awesome. the black witchery interview where they name drop blasphemy beherit and von the whole time, the blood storm interview where he is doing some sort of alchemy, the great thornspawn dorky anti poser rant. It illustrates a really magical scene for me.

"I was born in 1991" = AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Just kidding Smile

I graduated high school in 1991.

In 1991, I was all about Death Metal/Grindcore/Hardcore.

NO ONE in America was listening to Black Metal in 1991.
Maybe a few Bathory fans and surely some Venom fans....who probably were not calling either band "Black Metal".

I remember the mp3.com explosion with band uploading material, useless trash, good trash, and things that weren't trash at all. FOREST STREAM got signed to a subsidary of Earache. Some Russian Melancholy Black band, not terrible. There was another band that represented themselves but I can't remember their name...they used that pic the young ghost girl in the hall floating holding a doll that ENGORGE used on "Dead...Fuck...Blackness...."

But yeh, it was funny when black metal entered the internet.

Prozak, calling Prozak and also InfernalHorde.com, when it first started, argh.....off to work.

Being from Illinois, I remember discovering black metal in the form of an amazing fanzine: UNIFORCE issue #4 in like 1990 I believe. It was made by Mark of the godly gore band IMPETIGO. He interviewed: BLASPHEMY/TREBLINKA & a few other amazing death metal, gore metal & thrashcore stuffs. That fanzine as a collective was my bible at that point in time. Anyone out there have a link to HQ scans of these? An old girlfriend threw my issues out! Sad

Also, other bands that I remember were: MURDERGOD/DARKENWOODS/WARHATE/WEAKLING/DEMONCY...Oh there are a few others that scape me right now.

Certainly YAMATU. Don't forget ENKIL! That demo & the few comp tracks they contributed were gold.

Didn't they primarily focus on european stuff?

Indeed. Moribund flew the flag for US stuff. It wasnt on the Necropolis radar. Paul was all about 3rd level project bands. Only hammerheart managed to outdo him on that front.

Another distro I liked was Evil Music if I remember the name correctly...

Evil Music was cool, lots of harder to find stuff. They sold me total cheap CDr bootlegs a couple times though, sent the wrong size of shirts, etc. Still, they're how I got into some really important bands at a young age.

Weren't they affiliated with Anus.com? Actually that site was great, got a LOT of great cds there at a very affordable price.

Unfortunately no link.
But an AArrgghhhh just for that great times and for Mark /Impetigo and Uniforce !!
I remember in mid 90ies buying the "ultimo mondo" vinyl not in the metal corner of that shop instead in the alternative / independents vinyl corner haha.. may that cover was too special at that time so they were into independent /aternative bands in 1995 in that shop.....
