Posting this as I'm listening to Bastard - Wind of Pain (one of my favourites). What stuff do you worship? For me:
Zouo (The Final Agony is probably my favourite 7" of all time)
GISM of course
Mobs
Disclose
Confuse
Outo
Paintbox, Forward, Death Side, etc.
also newer stuff like Framtid, D-Clone, Isterismo and Kriegshog, etc.
Fuck, I could go on and on, too much fucking killer shit from Japan! _________________

Japanese hardcore punk ≠ Japanese crust imho.
As for me, Judgement (pretty obvious I guess) and the Hakodate scene (Etae, Crude, Mustang and my favourite, Balance!!) Then, later Death Side, Bastard, Gauze, Nightmare, Lip Cream, the usual... + some various bands like Evance, Padlock, etc...
The best records coming from Japan last year were Confront and Nemesis' 7"es. Nemesis might be 2011 though. |

| Last autumn i‘ve seen D-clone playing in a squat opening for Doom, incredible guitar sounds and insane screaming by the singer! And the drummer played barefoot |

The early works of Sodom. Some may dislike them for being seemingly being too controlled, too sharp, but it's all good, I tell ya.

I'd have to burn this thread down to the ground if there wasn't any mention of this band. 'No side' is top notch!
More muschi power worth mentioning:

Err, no matter how great The Comes are, their sound shaped Japanese hardcore much less than a few other bands mentioned already (such as Confuse/the Kyushu bands, Gauze (but not the super early stuff), Death Side, etc...) Actually, they always sounded quite "American" to my ears compared to many of their peers at the time. This is just my opinion though. |
