What's the general consensus on this album? I doubt anyone's going to be calling it their favorite, but I barely ever see it talked about and I've always really liked it. That fucking weirdo guitar-tone is perfect, and tracks like Beneath the Hollow are seriously up there for me in MA's discography.

Would really like to see a proper LP release for this one(along with a repress of Gateways of course).

I totally get what you mean with the guitar tone, I havent listened to it properly for a good few years now but I remember loving it when it came out. I will give it a re-listen later, but yeah your right it never gets a mention but I don't remember it being awful or anything. The second disc was a bit pointless though.

I don't know when heard this album remember liking the 2 disc over the first disc. Musically it's great but lyrics and vocals ruined the album for me. I still say Gateway is the last good album.

Love this album. Took quite a while for it to grow on me but it has easily become one of my favorites along with the early classics. About the guitar tone, I read somewhere in an interview a long time ago with Trey that he used a solid state amp with along side a tube to create that weird sound it has. "Enshrined by Grace", "Stricken Arise" and "God of Our Own Divinity" are some of the choice cuts off that imo.

Was this released on vinyl at that time? I don't recall just remember buying the digibox coming along with double jewel case.

Yeah, the second disc is pretty pointless. Also not too keen on the drum solo track or the instrumentals.

Do not like this album. Too much filler and ''wank''. Gateways is where I stop with Morbid Angel.

Great album, and underrated. God of Our Own Divinity, Enshrined By Grace, Stricken Arise, great tunes. Some of the little interludes like Abyssous are great too. I hope everyone who shat on this when it came out feels pretty stupid now since the newest album.

Why would one feel stupid? Illud doesn't make Heretic any less crappy.

Way too much nonsense filler.

seconded... although heretic has it's moments, but not enough to keep my attention for the entire thing.... and it's of course downhill from there Wink
